That is very young. It is a shame that he could never really turn that amateur prowess into success as a pro. Great character outside of the ring and did a huge amount for black people (boxers or not) in an age when the NF and skinheads still made life difficult on the street.
RIP
It's a great shame. He was a very talented fighter and was touted as the "big thing" before Eubank, Watson and Benn. Unfortunately after a promising start to his pro career, it went a bit pear shaped (couple of ko's ithink) and that opened the door for the others.
Technically a beautiful fighter if memory serves me right.
RIP.
Jesus was he only 53? Fucking Cancerreally is a cunt of a disease.
That's some record 10 Amateur titles, i'm just a few years too young to remember many of his fights but was well aware of him and the name.
His nephew Cyrus played for Northern Ireland over the weekend in their World Cup qualifier
Great Steve Bunce piece on Christie

Errol Christie was going to be the English Sugar Ray Leonard but for various reasons that did not materialise.
I remember his fight with Mark Kaylor had racist comments attached to it and he lost in a war but can not remember if it was televised.
I defiantly remember Michael Watson smashing him up very easily in a warm up fight at the end of his career.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
