    Default Bare Knuckle Fighting

Ok last week I watched misfits boxing and this weekend it was Bare knuckle fighting.

Did you know they use a triangle ring? Watched Lucas Brown, the Australian heavyweight, win easily in a round.

Paulie Maliganni has done it and James De Gale has a fight due.

They insist it is safer, quicker and less brutal than proper boxing.

Can’t wait for Canelo v Crawford next week.

James De Gale contest this weekend was a horrible watch. It was a foul infested contest with little skill or entertainment value.

I loathe this barbaric sport. WE have gloves for a reason.

DeGale in bare knuckle is just frightening on its face. He was being torn up on his way out of the sport and now going on 40. Some people actually say less deep damage is done and gloves are largely to protect the hands but getting punched in the head is still getting punched in the head.

Seemed like back in the day guys did it in reverse. They'd come up in tough man contests or smokers and then gradually improve skill and professionally train to become solid boxers. I remember Haugen and Morrison talking about it. But bare knuckle now is basically a last gasp for faded former boxers. Nowadays the only bare-knuckle fights I'll watch are the classic flick Hard Times starring Charles Bronson. And maybe a few Clint Eastwood classics

Paulie Maliggani fighting tonight after 6 years from his last bare Knuckle fight and 8 years from losing to Eggington in boxing. Do not understand why they do it.

They are fighting in a triangle ring and there have been 2 first round knockouts.

How did he get on? This bare knuckle stuff is barbaric. And Malignaggi of all people doing it?? He was feather fisted as a pro.
He can’t be that badly off, he’s done TV work and all sorts. Recipe for disaster.

I am enjoying some BKB myself lately, I’ve been watching what I can of Austin Trout I figured he’s a good place to see how “conventional” boxing at an elite level would transfer over. I’m hoping BKB is well funded so we will see more talent pass through and develop uniquely BKB techniques / tactics so we might see what a fight from the 1800s would’ve looked like. Archie Moore and Charley Burley were tutored by a BKB guy in the old days so perhaps a resurgence of a cross guard will reemerge? It’s much more practical I think for BKB.

Olympic gold medalist and former featherweight world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa has joined BKB.

The Miami-based bare-knuckle boxing promotion has snapped up Gamboa, 44, on a multi-year deal in a massive coup for the fastest-rising combat sport.

Gamboa said: “Bare knuckle boxing is the oldest form of boxing.

"After winning an Olympic gold medal and world championships in boxing, now I’m focused and excited to become BKB Bare Knuckle World Champion.

"I’m going to showcase my skills and show why I belong at the very top of this sport.”

Gamboa becomes the latest big-name boxer to ditch the gloves and join BKB after Paulie Malignaggi and Lucas Browne.

Malignaggi challenges Rolando Dy for the BKB super welterweight title on May 16 in Manchester.

Browne was recently knocked out by Gustavo Trujillo in a heavyweight title fight.

Lee Selby will return to boxing - but without gloves - announcing he has signed a deal with BKB.

The Welsh wizard has signed a multi-fight, multi-year agreement which is a real coup for the sport, which is growing in prominence with every passing moment.

On his return and new deal, Selby said: “I’ve achieved everything in gloved boxing - from regional titles to defending my world title five times.

"Now, bare knuckle is calling. It’s the original, no-filter version of boxing, and I’m excited to bring my speed, skill, and experience to BKB.

"I’m here to win another world title and show why I’m still one of the best.”

Mike Vazquez, founder of the promotion, added: "Lee Selby is a true champion with an incredible resume, and we’re honoured to have him join our roster.

"His technical mastery and championship mentality will light up the trigon.

"With fighters like Gamboa and Malignaggi already proving the path for elite boxers, Lee’s signing shows BKB is where legends come to chase greatness.”
