    Default boxers nose

boxer dont seem to have there nose's broken during a fight even after 12 rounds of solid fighting the shape doesn't change. i was told that fighters have a certain type of surgery which is a bit of bone removed which prevents there nose's from being broken, is this true?

huh, never heard that one before.

lots of people scared to break a nose and to that i say, benny leonard had 212 bouts and a nose that stuck out like a sun dial but one look at the man and you see not one bend or twist on that sucker. in 212 bouts not one man could hammer that monument of a nose on his face. the moral of the story is: defense, defense, defense

i know what your saying, defence is the name of the game but when i watch other sports football, rugby etc, if a player is hit on the nose it breaks his eyes water then swell shut within 2 mins and he has to leave the field and thats after just 1 blow.

look at james toney he had a 12 rounder then 6 weeks later had another 12 rounder on top of that he's had almost 80 pro fights most of which are 8 rounds or more but his nose is no different now then in his first fight, now i know he's the master of counter fighting with a great defence but he must of got hit on the nose 1 million times

does anyone know if any such surgery really is under taken??

One of the bones in my nose has grown really big, went to see a nose doctor (didn't get on with him when he learned I boxed... seemed to forget lads like me keep him in the job :P) its pushing the cartilage to one side so one of my nasil cavitys is forced nearly shut and one is really open.... any way he says it not worth removing the bone until I stop boxing because it will really weaken my nose.

some doctors can be negative, you tell them your hands injured they tell you to stop boxing, your legs hurt they tell you to stop playing football, your back hurts stop weightlifting they tell you.

so i take that as far as we know there is no such operation that boxer have that stops there nose's from breaking. thanks to everyone who helped with there answers

no matter what shape or size your nose has bone, cartlige a septum etc etc, i've just finished watching a real hard hitting fight on dvd were both guys are taking power shots streight on the nose and theres no change in shape nor flatting so there must be somthing in this

Same reason why I went to get mine done, though my nose is mainly wonky from outside of boxing... didn't want it done if it ment it would break really easy which he told me it was... I'll just put up with it for now
