    Default IBF orders Agbeko/Mares rematch

Nice to see them do something right for a change. That was damn quick. I thought maybe by weeks end. Told you so Marble

IBF President Daryl Peoples and IBF Championships Chairman Lindsey Tucker completed their review of the IBF Optional Bantamweight Championship bout that took place on August 13, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV, between Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares. Peoples and Tucker observed several low blow fouls committed by Abner Mares. While the referee, Russell Mora, issued numerous warnings for low blows during the course of the bout, he neglected to deduct points for these fouls. With 1:03 left in round eleven, Joseph Agbeko was hit with a low blow foul that forced him to the canvas. Mr. Mora determined that the blow landed by Mares was legal and began to count indicating that a knockdown had occurred.

Based upon their review of the bout, it has been determined by the IBF that inappropriate conduct by the referee affected the outcome of the fight. In accordance with IBF/USBA Rule 3.D., the IBF is ordering a rematch between Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares for the IBF Bantamweight title which must be held within the next 120 days or by December 14, 2011.

All that's happened is the order.

Now let's see what actually happens

There's a good chance Mares simply trashes the IBF belt (always conduct I applaud).

That thought crossed my mind but if he does that he loses all cred in my book. After-all he should be the one asking for the rematch.

Why? Strange things happen in boxing all the time. Fighters shouldn't try to fix them.

As for me, a fighter NEVER loses cred trashing an alphabet belt.

Of course I'd like to see the two of them again, but if Mares is offerred a fight against say Nonito Donaire I am not going to trash him for taking it.

He would in this case based on the circumstances. I doubt he goes for Donaire. Espinoza wont allow that at this point regardless of what GBP has to say. He'd be eaten alive.

Doesn't the decision result in changing the "W" to a "NC"? If it does, then Mares has no belt to trash. however, I think the point is moot because as I recall reading Mares was ready to move back up to 122. It also makes it kinda of a marketing dud if he carries no title going up against Donaire. I think he has more reason for making the rematch than not.

Think Bowe got plenty of deserved flack for trashing/ refusing to fight Lewis? If Mares and GBP take that route I reserve the right to call them chumps and cowards. Belt or no belt, do the right thing.

Who said they were. The IBF is inconsequential. They are the first to act on that circus this past Saturday. I don't really care who calls for it. A rematch needs to be ordered.

I'd like to see the rematch, this time with a competent ref, I consider the "win" by Mares as bogus, as for trashing the belt, why not give it back to Agbeko where it belongs.

The same guy dq'd Peterson against Rios for not doing anywhere near what Mares did. The same ref dropped the ball with Donaire/Montiel.

Hasn't the WBC ordered a Mares V Vic rematch? Abner Mares will be busy for a while.?

Yes im thinking also the same guy who want to save Montiel's ass on Donaire even though he clearly saw that Montiel twitch after the knockdown getting up helplessly he allowed to continue to be hit 3 to 4 times this guy is a nut. Well we know its a championship fight but the fighter is already helpless on that scenario he should stop the fight already.

Honestly i started to hate the fighting style of Mares, he did to Vic Darchinyan then again to Agbeko, the rematch with be awful to see i guess it would end either by DQ by Mares, im hoping not.
