Default Tonight is only Floyds 3rd fight Since Hatton 4 years ago.....So.......

How long can he keep this up..?

Is this a good or bad thing for a fighter.?

Doesn't seem to be doing him any harm but surely one day soon ring rust will set it

He looks in tip top shape yet again but i just hope Ortiz steams into him and goes for it!

Tough to tell. I look at the Floyd who sizzled against Gatti in 2005 and now 7 years later he is the oldish one now, but I do like how he hunted down Shane took his best punches and beat him up always moving forward. I'd like to see him stand in the pocket and fight Ortiz in the inside make it rough and test this kids heart again

In June 2005 I spoke to Arturo Gatti and Buddy McGirt on a conference call just before his fight with Floyd. I was working for a site called rabbitpunchboxing.com and was assigned to call in at that conference. Buddy and Arturo were saying the strategy they were going to beat Mayweather with was called "Hacoona Matata" whereby Gatti was going to try to hit Floyd right behind the left ear whenever he did that shoulder roll thing. Dont know why McGirt called it "Hacoona Matata" if thats slang for that part behind the ear or what. I spoke to Buddy first and then asked Arturo if it was true. He said yes, they were going to hit ANY AVAILABLE TARGET---hips, elbows, biceps, behind the ear, to try and inflict any kind of pain and slow him down. The problem was Floyd was so goddam fast, Gatti couldnt touch him anywhere, Hacoona Matata or anywhere else for that matter.

Now we're hearing Ortiz will try the same thing---hit any target legal or borderline-legal. I think despite the 6 years that have elapsed since Floyd's fight with Gatti, that Floyd hasnt really lost much speed if any, and that Ortiz will suffer the same fate as Arturo, who quit after 6. In fact Gatti had a better chin so Ortiz prob wont make it past 4 or 5 and will quit in the same fashion he quit against Maidana.

just cause you post the same damn thing in 3 threads doesn't mean it has any merit lol to compare Ortiz and Gatti is like comparing apples and oranges, Gatti was already reaching the end of his career and his punch resistance was fading, as was evident against two infamous feather fisted fighters Baldomir and Alfonso Gomez, Ortiz is 24 and was stopped (actually quit) against one of the biggest punchers at 140 today

As a big Floyd fan I get frustrated but then surprised because the guy is so talented at adapting and gameplanning. You see him dazzle like the Gatti fight, then you see him Box more and slow the pace down in other fights. The Hatton fight was a great fight to me because he out Hattoned Ricky Hatton. The spoiling and dirty play wrestling and wearing Down Hatton championed, Floyd out did him.. Who knew No one, no one ever expected it.. Look at Mosely, stood in front of Mosely took his best punches and even after he almost went down he reset and began stalking Shane and pasting him.. I think most think of Floyd as a fast slick sports car type fighter myself included, but forget he can be a tough demolition Derby car too. At the lower weights Floyd fought hard an offensive, he didn't just all of a sudden forget how to fight like that

Also Mayweather has always been technique first and physical talent second. So I think the old deterioration argument might be a little premature at this point. But we will find out in the next 15 hours

If your training and sparring are good then ring rust is a myth. It's gym rust, not ring rust.

I agree to a point. Gym rust is really what alot of fighters have when in fact they blame ring rust. But training and sparring cant prepare you for fighting in the ring with all the media and fans and lights and pressure. So there IS something to that aspect of being rusty in the ring too. May be psychological at most, but its undeniable.

Floyd brought up a good point in the last press conference, stating that the spotlight big arena and pinnacle have been the norm for him many years now.. Ortiz not at all.

I actually think the lack of wars has helped him stay at the top.

True he does have brittle hands and the size of his gloves are like pillows.

He can get fit for the fight but his reflexes under fighting conditions means it is very risky taking so much time off between fights because even he will not know how much that has effected him until after the fight.

Floyd doesnt throw as many punches as he used too..which still seems to serve him well.
