Nick does do a fair amount of clowning but was landing the better shots for those two rounds. Condit didn't really start putting punches together until the 4th. I gave him the first based on the leg kicks. If you are going to win moving backwards or from the bottom in MMA you have to demonstrably out work and strike your opponent.

IMO thats what Condit did. He mixed it up the WHOLE fight...Nick chased him all night throwing sloppy lookin punches and throwing kicks to the air. Diaz didnt cut of the ring so to me that loses him points, Diaz clowned (wasting time), Diaz wasnt very active...to me this loses him the fight. Walking forward and taking 3 and landing 2 while mouthing off just doesnt justify a win for me.
Just a boxing example...Mayweather went backwards most of the time against Hatton but he still was winning that fight on the cards before the stoppage.
Outside of the kicks in the first round I didn't see Condit landing very many meaningful punches in rounds 1-3. He kept going for the spinning back fist that never landed cleanly and most of his punches were parried or dodged. I think Nick clearly landed the better punches in rounds 2 and 3, not that either of them landed a whole lot. Not sure what you are getting at with the Mayweather example. You can win moving backwards in MMA especially if you land like PBF did against Hatton. Scoring is different in MMA though. If you are going to fight from the bottom or moving backward you need to obviously out strike your opponent. Pretty sure I already said that.
