    Default IBF Sanctions PBF-Spinks

IBF SANCTIONS SPINKS-MAYWEATHER FOR NOVEMBER 4!
    By G. Leon

It appears that undefeated pound for pound Floyd Mayweather Jr could be moving up to junior middleweight to challenge IBF champion Cory Spinks. Although Mayweather advisor Leonard Ellerbe had "no comment" when we phoned him earlier, Boxingtalk can confirm that the IBF has decided to sanction Spinks-Mayweather, much to the dismay of Artie Pelullo, who promotes Spinks mandatory challenger Rodney Jones. "Yes I am aware of their decision and it's completely contradictory to their rules, but I've been in touch with my lawyers and they're already on it," said Pelullo. Spinks manager and trainer Kevin Cunningham had no comment as well. More to follow, until then Remember where you heard it first! (6:22 PM EST)

Update: Moments ago Boxingtalk spoke with IBF President Marian Muhammad, who also confirmed the sanctioning of Spinks-Mayweather for November 4!

Second Update: Boxingtalk also understands that Dan Goossen will be the promoter of record on the Mayweather side of the fence and that the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada could be the frontrunner to land the fight. Dan Goossen was unavailable for immediate comment.

doesn't mean it's going to happen, but i think this makes spinks a more likely opponent than baldomir.

Stated strongly. You're going to have a hard time wiggling out of that one later.

You have made your bed....remember Oscar Mayorga? Don't go making threds justifying it afterwards I'd be dissappointed if Floyd took this fight, would much rather see the Baldo one and I'd be interested to see what kind of numbers this PPV wise...I think(could be wrong) that it's going to be a bore fest.

    Heh heh heh.

Oh well...it'll be interesting to see Spinks stumbling again like he was against Karmazin.

This fight is not worth a fwock to Wacko. I wanted Floyd Baldomir...makes more sense.

Glad to see we agree and it will highlight Floyd's picking and choosing of opponents very very well! because you and I both know that if Karmazin had the belt,Floyd would NOT fight him(indeed he stated this openly in an interview)but I'd bet my last dollsar that a Karmazin fight would have been far more exciting! Let us see what numbers this does and how much Floyd makes....

I remeber Oscar Mayorga, and I also remember Mayorga Spinks. A fraud like Cory Spinks does not deserve to even be a fall guy for Floyd Mayweather. Beating a known phony, runner, and all around feather fisted hoax like Cory Spinks will do nothing for Floyd's legacy except garner him another belt. I will laugh though if Floyd goes through with this "fight" and Cory runs all night and gives Floyd his first loss. Bottom line is if you don't KO Cory Spinks, YOU LOSE!
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

cory spinks cantpunch for shit which is why flloyd wants to move up a div. then he can say i could punch at light middle, its so disgustingly obvious, he knows this, its another hand picked opponent, not baldomir because baldo can hit, flloyd is above his weight taking on fighters that win on points, he knows hes the best at that, its just disgusting, this man in my book is offcially A FAKE (until he beats hatton, cotto or baldo or someone who actually has an unbeaten record with names on it.)

Forget all the criticizm from everyone Starr...You could be right on this one...I wont say Floyd will get his ass kicked since Spinks cant cause a breeze with a power punch but..If he AND I STRONGLY STATE IF!!!
Spinks comes in top shape....He has that style that could beat Mayweather.....At 147 Mayweather is no power puncher that much is for certin so IMO Corey can hold up in the chin dept....Plus we never really saw Floyd work against a guy who rely's on mostly counters and in and out punches...It will be interesting to say the least...Baldomir looks good in the hype dept because of all the PR by the promoters and press...but public relations bull doesnt mean the fight will be what it is claimed....Like I said if Spinks is in top shape a win is not far fetched...He is the JINX of this era

I said it in a different thread a while back that this would be Floyds next fight. He wants 5 belts in 5 different weight divisions before he turns 30. He turns 30 next year plus if he gets this belt it makes a bout with ODLH a little more likely and a lot more lucurative. Unification mega bout with ODLH. Spinks is his only chance at a belt in the 154 division, everybody else at 154 is to strong for PBF.

I gotta say, I think this is a tougher, better fight than vs. Baldomir, and no less legit. Baldomir beat an undertrained and even-more-unfocused-than-usual Zab Judah, and then a totally shot C-level Arturo Gatti. Floyd is about three times as fast as Baldomir and I think most people agree that--while he wouldn't KO Baldomir (or even knock him down), he'd probably win every single round of that fight. The main reason people seemed to be calling for that fight was because Baldomir "deserved" it, for being the linear, true WW champ. But even once Baldomir won the title, no one wanted PBF to fight him. RAther, it wasn't until Baldomir beat Gatti that people wanted a Floyd fight--which makes no sense to me at all. How beating Arturo Gatti--who's lost like half of his last 15 fights--legitimizes anyone (especially someone who is already the division champ) at this stage is beyond me.

I'm not saying that Spinks is the best fight out there, but he's at least got the speed and technique to give Floyd some trouble for the first 5 rounds or so. I don't see Baldomir winning a single round.

I would rather see Floyd fight Hatton or Margarito, if for no other reason than to shut people up.
