Hatton Senchenko Saturday Night Fight/Chat thread

This is why I never liked him at 147... His best attribute was his strength at 140... Take that away and his boxing ability couldn't carry him.

I always thought, at his age he'd never make it back to 140 and knew he'd struggle at 147 so he shouldn't come back.

I know I knock the guy a lot... But seeing him post fight, I hate that I ended up right!

Ya know, been hit with enough and seen enough of hard body shots and what it takes to get up. More than anything, it takes heart. I just don't think he still has it for the sport at the warrior level. that was what was most sad to me.

With all due respect you are a young man who has not fought at that level. A younger Hatton would gave got Senchenko out earlier.

I'm not sure what your point is. Mine is, he maybe could have gotten up. Most do. Especially considering the rd was nearly ended and he had time to recoup. This game is mostly mental too and I think by this time in the fight Ricky already knew it wasn't anything like he'd hoped.

No one is questioning what a younger Ricky could have done. But this wasn't him.

I'm still musing why he didn't take a medium level tune up. He is still a bit delusional. You have to take a tune up to see what you have and though he was apparently slightly up, he still lost. There was no need for this. He was out 3 and a half years and that is a crazy length of time. Tyson fough McNeeley and though a bit of a joke, that was the correct approach. Hatton aimed too high too soon and wasn't physically or emotionally well to begin with.

When he said he was coming back I thought why?!?!? but from the build up to the ring walk it was like stepping back in time to the glory days and that was great to see, but from about round 5 it was clear to see this was not the Ricky of old and his reaction to the loss just shows how much the win would have ment to him.

is this the end? well after that reception he got I think there is still money to be made so I doubt this is the last we will see of him.... but I hope it is

Surely he has enough money though and there's plenty to be made more safely as a promoter. It seems like it's all psychological for him.

I wouldn't mind seeing him take something of a gimme fight to retire on a win, but to continue to try and compete against even a moderate level of opposition seems ridiculous.

Hatton best call it a day, there is no need to carry on after that peformance. His timing was so bad and he looked tired towards the end. I thought he was losing the fight. It was tough to watch that, I seriously hope he doesn't carry on though he doesn't need to take any further punishment. But his post fight reaction makes me think he will come back again.

I thought it looked like he was about to get up at 8 seconds and thought better of it, but who knows.

This is a bit like Winky Wright taking on a good fighter after a long lay off and getting beat and retiring, he should have taken an easier opponent.

Ricky was looking, for his past glory year but like us all it's in our past he gave it a go, I just hope
he retires and he can find some inner peace, for himself.

My point is that however strong you are mentally, your bodies resistance and ability to withstand pain and trauma decreases. When you spend a few days urinating blood you can be pretty sure that the deep tissue and organ damage will make you more susceptible in future to similar damage. it's not like a bone that heals back stronger. You may be right but I think the mental fortitude needed to even attempt a comeback after a life lived like Ricky's after 3 and a half years out would have made sure he got up if he could. Also I don't really know where you get the idea that MOST people get up from body shots that put them down. Plenty don't.

I think a body shot was awful to go out on too. You could see the look of defeat on his face because his mind was 100% there and his body just wouldn't get up... THe mind had the will, the body didn't.

I'm not sure there is and my guess is that's what prompted the comeback to support the promotion company
