You gotta give Taylor credit for facing such tough opposition 2 fighters with Hopkins & 1 against Wright both who are top 10 P4P fighters & he hasn't lost! I thought he was lucky to get the draw with Wright but thought he won both fights with Hopkins. Neither guy dominated Taylor which says a lot about his talent. Sure he didn't win convincingly but he wasn't beaten convincingly either. There were many who didn't even give him a shot at Hopkins the 1st time so to be in the position he is as middleweight champion with a 1st defense win over the #1 contender then his 2nd defense draw against the #1 contender is top notch. Taylor can only get better from here, he's already fought two of the best fighters in the world & hasn't lost who can ask for more than that?

Right back at ya ace, Taylor may not have looked that impressive but what is impressive is he went up against 2 of the best 3 times & held his own!

Let me just say this...I'm really REALLY big on Jermain Taylor. By far, he is talented & he's definently the best at 160lbs right now.

He got in the ring with the most talented middleweight in the last 10 years when he faced Hopkins & he did hold his own. Whether or not I thought that he did enough to win is entirely another story.

He got in the ring with one of the better defensively minded junior middleweights in the last 10 or 15 years when he faced Wright & again...he did more than hold his own...but again...the question of whether or not I thought that he did enough to win is once more an entirely another story. The thing is...he did do better than anyone period has...in the last 3-4 years. That's to be considered.

I've been a huge fan of the above three fighters since they all came into boxing...or since I started watching them.

I think that Hopkins will go down as my most favorite fighter of all time.

I think that Wright will come in at maybe third or fourth over all.

Taylor is still on my list...just not as high up as he was in the favs & all.

I was far more impressed with Taylor initially...more so than I am now.
I had a lot more love for Taylor before he was drawn into the Dibella/Hopkins fued. Prior to his "personality twist" (at the hands of Dibella) I thought that he was the future of 160lbs...that he was a good follow up to the Executioner.

Those thoughts are not that far out of reach or me still...BUT...I want to see him go back to who he was.

He's the champ now...but I can't say that I am that thrilled with the direction that "the Champ" has been pushed in to.

Taylor has had an odd run at the top...but I honestly believe that he can get back to who & what he was before the last two or three fights. He can reach the critical consensus & direction that he was headed towards before the first Hopkins fight & the Wright fight.

He just needs a few easy opponents that he can drop off for the public's satisfaction. To be the King...you don't have to rule the world...just your fellow subjects around you.

Alright...here's my response to that...I love Wright...I think that he's the S***...BUT...Wright, IWO, isn't a 100% settled deal for me at 160lbs either. Also, if Winky knows he won (& I think that he did) then he should take the rematch & beat him one more time.

Then I'd be convinced. I loved that fight by the way.

He has fought great opposition but he has yet to " impress me " He is a top tier fighter, no doubt... But he has yet to asssert himself as the premier MW Champ

You all forget...When was the last time Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright got KO'D or involved in a offenseive gunfight or looked overmatched? I think it is impressive that this "kid" and "prospect" has 2 wins and a draw(controversial or not) against 2 Hall Of Famers Oh and By the way the 2 premier defenders(besides James Toney ) in the game the past 10 years and still is middleweight champion..

Its not contradictory... He is top tier cuz he hangs with top tier opponants... that doesnt mean, because he can hang in a fight with the greats of our time that he should be on a pedistal above them. I want to see him rise as the new power in the div or see someone i.e. Wright, take it from him.

i think jt is a good fighter and respect him alot, you gota take your hat off to him he is fighting the right guys just the decisions have been a bit controversial, hes a big middleweight with a strong jab and good right hand his stamina is not the best and his experince will only get better with time. Training with manny in the kronk is the way forward and i can see jt sticking at the top for a long time

I'll agree there.

I like both of them...but I favor Wright...mainly because I think that Wright is pretty much the whole package...save the fact that he doesn't have stopping power in one hand.

Wright is a better boxer all around. He might not excite people...but he does win his fights when he wins his fights.

Know what I mean?
