My face got burnt 4 years ago at a house fire.There was supposed to be 3 children in there but it turns out we went in the front door as they ran out the back but we wernt told for 10 minutes or so till after we searched the house.


The house was "going like fuck" to use a fire brigade phrase but we did not want to get out coz we thought the kids were in there hideing somewhere.

This is a really tough question guys.

I think that there were many heroic acts perpetrated that day, especially by the rescue services. Some humans are essentially heroic and will act for the greater good. I am not sure that the firemen were heroes just for being firemen, and I am sure some of them were not particularly heroic on the day. Some were, though.

Isn't it odd that lots of people in the world think that the suicide pilots were heroes?

Definition, upbringing and outlook define our views just as does media and religious propaganda.

Entrenched views (like we all have) cannot be changed on a website forum or through everyday conversation....... that's part of the reason why the world is in the state it is currently in.

Having said that, Jax seems to have jumped off the Rahman bandwagon pretty damn quick - so maybe there is hope for all the fanatics in the world, including our own ones.

my point exactly, and I find it worrying that Sheps is so offended by one American film director making a film about firemen running into a building which could go down at any moment... yet there is no mention of Millions of people from countries with Islamic extremist elements who glorifty the suicide bombers and see them as heroes.

We need a word like 'Middleasternised'... it's about as ignorant as Americanised but because of double standards people would only care about the former.

I've seen it happen all the time in American History, something tragic or horrific happens and in the true capitalistic way, Movie makers decide to take the story, make people look like hero's, make lots of money and in turn alter history. (We've all seen the WW2 films where the yanks win it all by themselves)

I just think its digusting, the simple fact is the firemen who went into that building were doing their job, they didnt know the towers were going to fall, it was, in the loosest sense, an every day situation for them. They were not hero's.

All I can say is I hope you were very very drunk when you posted that.

Sheps as soon as i read your post i knew you were gonna get flamed for saying these people are not hero's. Its frankly f*cking insensitive and an insult to the firemans families they left behind. Words fail me. They were hero's in every sense of the word.Just turning up to do that job every day makes them a hero in my book. Let me say this...if you are American, British, Asian, what the fuck ever...this movie & the tragedy effects everyone.

I try not to get up on the stand regarding this mess...because honestly...it hit really REALLY close to home for me & it's a gotdam slap in the face to hear it disregarded so blatantly.

There were citizens from all over the world at the Towers...hence to the World Trade Center. In the end...this was global & to say that the people involved weren't heroes or that the movie is trying to capitalize on the situation...well that's just ignorant.

The two gents that it portrays were a huge part of the tragedy as were the people that new them & so on & so on...the director was more than just there to capitalize.

There's a lot of respect & homage in this movie. Sounds like you actually didn't see it...or like Brad said...no matter what...bullshit was going to come to mind for you.

Maybe you should just be a bit more respectful over the life & death matters of someone in the future.

That's all. People say & do stupid things all the time...trust me...I'm living breathing proof that they get away with it everyday...but the firemen & rescue workers need to be glorified & praised for the job they did & do everyday world wide.

I have no problems with them making a movie out of this event, afterall we had to put up with all those pro-irish films made about the 'troubles.
