Agreed I think Floyd will stay at welter and make easy defences rather than challenge himself against the bigger fighters.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

Sounds logical. If so, that only knocks off Canelo from my list of 6..... and we'd still be missing one more name if Floyd were to go through with his contract of 6 defenses in the next 30 months.

That question has been hovering in my mind since the contract was announced. Floyds ideal weight is 147 and it’s a toxic mix of politics and a growing lack of talent. If 147 was an animal that was hunted, there would be a moratorium on hunting them for a few years. I think it will come down to what will pass to the spinners. After Guerrero its 5. I think Floyd will try to make the first 3 at 147. On second thought maybe he will fight Ishe Smith. I don’t think legacy means the same thing to Floyd as gifted as he is as say it did for Leonard or Robinson. I think he has coveted the 0 and that he will covet it more now. He’s probably shooting for that 50 and 0 mark.

Bradley and Marquez are going to fight in order to meet Manny and Manny has a pretty tough fight coming up be it Rios or Alvarado. Marquez will eliminate Bradleys chances at Floyd by beating him to get at Manny. I think that effectively eliminates the three of them given the time line for this year. Khan would be a money fight and Floyd has been keen to go to England since Hatton. The fight would not mean all that much but it would fill the coffers at Showtime.

Agree that the Manny fight has lost much of its lustre but the fight still probably does massive. I think Floyd might wait until after his contract is up and make it his 50th and then retires. I say that as I just cant see Arum and Floyd getting anything done and add to that now on competing networks its highly unlikely guys like Rios and Bradley even appear on the radar screen.

Now to 154 or higher. Floyd does not seem suited above 154. Even against Oscar he looked sluggish and that was his first venture to the 154 area and he was at his peak. Each other time he has moved up he has not looked like the same Floyd but he pulls through do to his amazing talent. Alvarez was over 170 pounds against Trout and in the same weight area as Martinez the night of his fights at 160. There is an old adage in boxing that put two men in the ring of equal talent and the bigger man wins. Floyd has yet to meet a bigger man of equal talent but the wrench is time. The premise is based on fighters at their peak. Floyd looks a bit on the slide to me and there could come a time where he is beaten by the lesser man that happened to be about 25 pounds heavier. In a sense it’s unfair to expect Floyd to jump that far at this stage. Where Floyd is concerned it is the fans at times that need to put their expectations in check. Pretty soon some will be expecting him to fight Andre Ward. Martinez is out for the rest of the year and then rehab so that puts him in the picture around the middle of 2014. I think if Floyd is going to make the jump it will be with him. Having said all that I have no idea what we are in store for. If I was a betting man I suppose I would put money on Haymon figuring heavily in selection.

Well said. I think the Khan fight (IF Khan can keep it together) in the UK is very likely...that fight will pull massive numbers. The Manny fight will depend if Pac can pull through his next two fights (which is nowhere a sure thing)...assuming he wins against Alvarado/Rios and then the winner of Marquez/Bradley. As much as people are clamoring for the Canelo fight...i actually don't know how much longer Alvarez can stay at 154. He looked gassed against Trout.

Schaefer being interviewed on Box Nation now talking about Khan fighting Alexander and then a possible Mayweather fight in Britain next year. For fuck's sake. It'd be PPV in England. Hatton Mayweather did about a million UK buys but I don't think Khan would do that much. But would it sell in America? Rule of thumb used to be an overseas fight would cut the US PPV take by half. Even if they have it in Vegas, would it really do a million buys in America? People want to see Floyd fight the best guys out there, Martinez/Canelo-type fights.
