All worthy. What about these which i would class as mobster...

    A Bronx Tale

    Carlito's Way

    City of God

Personally I would also class Scarface as a mobster flick

great list ... some candidates from Hong Kong:

A Better Tomorrow 1 (the gun-fu from A Better Tomorrow 2 mixed with the story from #1 would be superawesome)

    --------

The Mission (Johnnie To director, not the De Niro movie)

    ----------

    Election
    Triad Election (aka Election 2)

    ---------

    Rich and Famous
    Tragic Hero

Both starring Chow Yun-fat - made to be one movie, but it was so long, they cut it to 2.

    -------

Young and Dangerous series (1-6, Official Prequel) (this series from late 90's was so popular that it had a few unofficial sequels)

A group of 4 buddies joined a Triad and slowly rise through the ranks to end up on top ruling

probably a few other worthy candidates, but those were off the top of my head

Great list and always good to see Miller's Crossing getting love.

The only thing I disagree on is I think Scarface is a mobster movie but it's all semantics I guess.

That was City of Fire (with Yun Fat). City of Violence was more recent (2005 or 2006)

No, I think you are thinking of director Ringo Lam's City on Fire starring Chow Yun-fat as the undercover cop and Danny Lee as the crook (in John Woo's The Killer, Danny Lee was the cop and Chow was the killer)

As great as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is, as good as Once Upon a Time in the West is, many consider Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America to be his finest work.

Fixated on the asian movies and didn't remember Leone's classic.

QT probably was also inspired by Stanley Kubrick's The Killing starring Sterling Hayden (non-chronological storytelling about a racetrack heist). Where The Killing is different than RD, was that TK followed each character from beginning to end and then going on to the next character from beginning to end and repeat.
