How is Calzaghe overrated? I mean how highly is he rated? Most people rate him as the greatest 168 of all time but that division isn't stacked historically. Roy Jones is probably the best of all time at that division but didn't stick around long enough there. I think even the most staunch Calzaghe supporters would acknowledge that. I don't think anyone puts him at top 10 of all time or anything. Hes a great fighter, would you care to propose a fighter who had a better body of work at 168?

prime Chris Eubank, prime RJJ, Sven Ottke, Mike McCallum, Steve Collins, James Toney, all blow him out of the water, hell even Nigel Benn would smoke him.

Why would you say that? What's the point of your ranting here?

I've never met Jeff Lacy, and I doubt you have, so why would you say the man is 'piece of shit'?

He was a world class athlete, who's career probably didn't hit the heights he wanted it to. Nevertheless, he was committed and brave enough to step into the ring, alone and in front of millions. I always respect fighters' courage because I know what it takes.

I wonder whether you'd call him a piece of shit to his face, instead of on an Internet forum?

Joe Calzaghe is the most overrated fighter of all time!

I don't think he overrated or underrated, I think he a highly regarded, retired boxer who beat some of the best. Anyone who thinks he's overrated should look at his boxing record.
Lacy was overrated but Hopkins--I don't really care for the guy-- is still outsmarting younger fighters and he was not able to do that against Calzaghe.
If Calzaghe had a big punch to go with his other skills he would be a legend.

    Joe Calzaghe is underrated.

If he were Lionel Jones from Philadelphia USA and had exactly the same record, the people who bash and discredit him would acknowledge he's an ATG boxer.

Man brock you going tell me you think Calzaghe overrated and then tell me how great the rock is when he is clearly the most overrated man in history hw boxing. Anyhow Calzaghe far from overrated, he beat Hopkins, Kessler, Eubank, Jones and Bika which is a good list and was champ for 10 years. People say Jones and Hopkins were old but not like Calzaghe was prime at 36 years of age. As for Pavlik and Froch they called out Calzaghe when he was retired and could not even beat his left overs.

Rocky Marciano is the most overrated fighter of all time. Joe did well but he could have unified the title against Ottke instead of staying in the comfort zone of Warren's apron.

I was a big hater of JC at one stage but he is a fantastic boxer.

On this occasion I cant agree with everything Ross has said above as a prime RJ is a different league to any boxer on earth.

JC vs hopkins was close and only got the decision due to the white boy comment which made them both alot more money.

I think if your white and have alittle bit of italian in you as a boxer the public will always tend to blow things up a bit.

In JC case he fought and beat 46 opponents of various different styles just like mayweather is doing.

JC had alot of phantom injuries that seem to appear and disappear in demand but you name me a fighter that hasnt chose a to fight a boxer with less risk but more money.

JC never seems to get mentioned in the pound 4 pound stakes but he is right up there and i would have loved to have seen how he would have faired against a prime andre ward.

JC deserves the respect of all boxing fans and his workrate would give floyd mayweather or any other hall of famer serious problems in a same weight situation.

Carl froch is another fave of mine but theres a way to beat him and i dont know whether he would beat JC

Froch's calling out of Calzaghe came off the heels of his TKO victory over Jermain Taylor on 4-25-2009. Calzaghe for his part had dismissed Froch saying, "Enough is enough with Carl Froch calling me out,” Calzaghe told the South Wales Argus. “I can tell you categorically that I will not fight the guy even if I did come out of retirement, which I am not going to do..."I am sick to death of him drumming up free publicity for himself by using my name,” Calzaghe said. “No one who watched the fight can believe he’s in my class. He’s my stalker."..."For the first eight rounds against Taylor he was like a goalkeeper with no defense. He was being outclassed and outfought by a middleweight who’s seen better days."

    HOWEVER...Here's the truth about Calzaghe:

You know who is overrated? Joe Calzaghe is overrated. Sure he beat Roy Jones, and Bernard Hopkins, but both those guys are past their respective primes, meaning he beat faded legends. If he'd have fought them in their primes, he'd have gone 0-2, or 1-1 at best.

Calzaghe has built his record having been sheltered in England, and fighting fringe contenders, never-will-be's, over-hyped stars, and as I mentioned already, faded legends. If that's not the definition of overrated, I don't know what is. he is the msot overated boxer of all time, he stayed in england and cardiff dodging boxers then came over and beat a 41 year old roy jones junior and a bernard hopkins who was passed his best, he did beat kessler and that was a good achievement and beat an overated jeff lacy, but other than that he was well overated, he ducked pavlik and froch instead he fought peter manfredo!!!

I'm surprised you haven't been burned at the stake over this.

So sorta like a prime Charles, Moore, Louis, Walcot etc etc. Tell you what, you get that time machine on the go and we can put this theory to the test.

Btw the only man that might have beaten Cal at 168 is Jones. Perhaps Langford. And lmfao at Sven. And you call Joe C overrated.......

Brock has gone a little over the top with Ottke and Collins or McCallum was too old at that weight.

He's only overrated by the Brits. Most Americans dont even consider Calzaghe as anything great and they certainly dont rate him that high all-time..

Me personally, Im a huge fan of Calzaghe and i dont overrate him nor do I underrate him. I put him exactly where he belongs which is high up there with Eubank and Benn.. Maybe even have surpassed them.

I like Brock. He's kinda half serious and half looking for a reaction. Like his workouts on the playground. I have to back track a bit because I think Watson would have been a problem for Jones or Cal and the same goes for a prime Eubanks.
    My conclusion remains though.
