i would pick canelo to win this fight, but cotto is definitely a live dog in there. its a fight for me where i definitely wouldnt put money on it. but i do agree that its a great fight for both fighters and a huge money fight.

it's really down to him, does he want to add to his legacy by taking a shot against Martinez and adding a strap at 160 to his collection making him a 4 weight champ and the only Puerto Rican to do so, or take the money against Canelo, IMO Alvarez will be the favorite heading into the fight but as we have already seen that Alvarez can have every advantage in his corner and still not be able to capitalize on it, and Cotto still has the speed, jab, and boxing ability to outbox him, good close fight

Cotto would beat Alvarez fairly easily. Cotto can box and keep up the work, Alvarez can't. Master versus Junior. Alvarez would need to hurt Cotto, but you cannot rely on that alone.

Its an interesting fight considering the coaching change. An old boxing maxim suggests never to hook with a hooker. Problem here is, they are both hookers. Personally I would rather Diaz be in Cotto's corner for this particular matchup and he may have to be depending on schedules. Cotto could hurt the kid but I think youth would prevail. Cotto under Roach and in the phone booth would allow Alvarez to come to a stop, plant and get his shots off.

Cotto is a warrior, but he loses against Canelo and he loses against Martinez. However, he has a better chance against Canelo, assuming Martinez is most of what he used to be. If Cotto beats Canelo, he can challenge Martinez then. If he loses badly to Canelo, he can retire having made $10M.

At this stage of his career, the decision should come down to money. A Cotto-Martinez fight has been talked about for a while and is legacy-defining fight. However, he makes less money facing Martinez than he would Canelo.

Bottom line - Face Canelo now, win, and face Martinez, lose badly and call it a day, lose close, and take a rematch for the same amount of money.

If this is true would love to see Cotto take the fight, and win or lose retire. He has done his bit.

It means nothing aside from IF Cotto wins, a rematch with Floyd should be in Floyd's last four fights. If Alavrez wins, he avenges his name as the second best BEHIND Floyd.

Nothing to see here aside from curiousity.

Regardless of who we as fans think Cotto should face, the decision is Cotto's. He's the veteran, surefire HOF'er..... he gets to call the shots. Not to mention the fact he's not tied to any promoter.

I don't think Cotto poses any serious threat to Canelo. But Canelo does need this win to catapult his career back on track after his set back.

Alvarez has all the qualities to make it to the top. He was just too early to be top dog.

I think in the future he will be fine hanging in between the weights of Broner and Golovkin.

All together they are the future of boxing in the lower divisions!

I agree. Cotto's best days are behind him. Canelo's are ahead of him. Cotto would take a beating

Martinez would out slick Cotto pretty easily. Quillin would stop him early. Golovkin would make his wife a widow. He would literally put Cotto in a coffin. So winning a title at 160 is not gonna happen for Miguel. He needs to stop stalling and take the Alvarez fight

Agree Cotto has no business above 154 really, although he'd have a chance against Quillin or Martinez today imo. If this offer is concrete I have a hard time seeing why he wouldn't fight Alvarez, and I'm really hoping that happens now. It's a great matchup.
