OK fine. Margarito isn't the second coming of Muhammad frickin Ali but he's still a damn good fighter. He's never ducked anyone and all he does is knock people out, so until someone beats him, show the champ some respect.

I think Williams gives Tony some trouble but the hammer is barely wet behind the ears. We don't even know if he can whether the storm from one of boxings p4p strongest punchers (yes he is). If Williams can beat Margarito than he can beat ANYONE at 147 (except Floyd of course).

And lastly let's get our facts straight. I heard someone on this forum say Margarito lost to some nobody a couple of fights ago. For the last time, he went up to fight 154 pound champ Daniel Santos and was robbed because of a hometown decision in PR. The fight was stopped because of a clash of heads right when Tony (a notorious slow starter as most accumulation punchers are) was making Santos' knees buckle.

Margarito had fought at 154 before he fought Santos, where did you hear that was his first time? He regularly went up and down between 47 and 54. And he only fights these people that don't know how to jab, don't know how to move at all. Lujan put moves on Margarito for the first 3 rounds and made Tony look like an amateur before he stopped for some reason and started just slugging and going on the inside. Watch the first 3 rounds of the Lujan fight and say with a straight face Margarito would beat Floyd. Anyway all he does is knock people out yeah..and they are all nobody in the top 10 anywhere either for a "champ" as far as not ducking anyone, Margarito ducks anyone that calls him out who doesn't fight squared up and THATS A FACT!

    1) Santos won

    2) 6 Heads that Mayorga walked through that has no chin? Who Larry Laser Marks almost KO'd at 140?

    3) He never offered Zab a fight he just talked about it in interviews. But Top Rank never reached DKP to make the fight at all.

    4) Mayweather got a better deal with the "proven" Baldomir.

How much credit would he have gotten for that? Honestly. Not much. I'm surprised Williams got much of any at all to be honest but you know the people that hate Margarito, they are not many Williams haters, would have just talked about how he beat up on old Shotba.

Clottey's a better fight, no doubt.
I still think Margarito would have gotten more kudos if he had fought Sharmba. But then Margarito doesn't like to fight movers does he?
There are movers and then there are movers. Just cause you have a style to beat a guy, and a boxer is the style to beat Margarito, doesn't mean you're good enough to do it. Sharmba's legs are weak, and just cause he moves doesn't mean he's always technically sound, Sharmba's always been a bit too much of a risk taker. He likes to fight a bit more than what's good for him, he doesn't stay disciplined, at some point within the first six rounds, he'd do something stupid, engage Margarito, and get knocked out. And I'm not saying that cause I think Margarito's some kind of beast, he's a good solid fighter, but he gets beat by Floyd and I can think of a few others that would beat him too.

As far as kudos, no, I wouldn't give him ANY for beating Sharmba, and I like watching the guy fight, imagine what the shrine in the closet Floyd fans would say.

Just at 147? I was thinking more of the 147-154 range, if he moved up or if other people moved down.

But at 147: Floyd beats him IMO, I can't comment on Cotto until I see how he looks at 147 but that's a possible big fight down the line, Collazo is tough for anybody but I might favor Margarito. Quintana and Williams are too unproven at the moment for me to pick them but I think Quintana is very promising. So right now I can only really say Floyd, although I would give Collazo a good chance, I think its actually a tougher fight for Margarito than Baldomir because of styles, and I need to see more from Cotto, Quintana and Williams.

I wanna get in on this.

Personally...I don't see Williams beating Margarito, nor do I see Quintana doing so either, but...I agree with you on the fact that Collazo is a tuffy.

The problem with most of the above names is that they would fight the stupid fight. Williams would want to show that he could go toe to toe & Margarito would crack him. Williams is just too open. Quintana...for some reason...I just don't see him being that effective against Margarito because I just don't think that he can take Margarito's body work.

Floyd has the style to beat Margarito & I will always believe that. A lot of movement is what will beat Margarito. Not a stationary target that is concentrating on power punches. Floyd's defense will give Margarito issues all night as will his foot work & speed.

I think Margarito can bang & he is a good fighter...but he aint great.

Clottey looked TERRIBLE in his last fight, mate. That fight was a complete stinker, all-around. Very unimpressive.

I don't know if he looked terrible. I was unimpressed too though. Not as unimpressed as I was with Sharmba Mitchell though. Bottom line, I don't give Margarito too much cred for the Clottey fight (assuming he wins), but it's way better than him fighting Sharmba or someone similarly shot. Clottey's probably better than anyone Margarito's been in with before, not that that's saying much.

it is always easy to assume when a fighter has yet to have a huge fight....I think you Paul Williams wagon needs a few more miles under its wheels.
I don't think they have even put the wheels on the wagon yet.

Williams against Margarito would be painful.......................for Williams.
I agree completely while williams may have that long reach and he is still undefeated he needs more experience. case and point what Happened to Kermit Citron?

Wow,totally agree Wack! I think he would beat Collazo though,he is effective at cutting off the ring and banging to the bodyadmittedly,it would be tough. I think he and Floyd would have a close fight and it would sure be exciting! I think he can beat Quintana because Carlos has not fought anyone like Tony and would get over whelmed.Good post though Wack, you kept it real.
