Michael Marrone

I just saw him fight on Friday night fights and he looked only about average for a prospect and almost got knocked out. He fought Zack Page:
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=255014
a good small heavyweight who got a late start to boxing. Marrone was cruising after 6 rounds with a knockdown to Page earlier in the fight when Page caught him with a good shot early in round 7, decking Marrone. His legs were giving out on him for most of the rest of the round, but he moved and held and survived the round. He had recovered well enough to hold his own in the 8th round and was given a majority decision.
Marrone goes well to the body but has only average speed and looks soft. If he wants to be a real contender rather than just a good journeyman he will have to work extremely hard, maybe even do some things to strengthen his upper body like weights perhaps.

Honestly...I don't think that Sam Peter is as bad as everyone else does.Originally Posted by Lyle

I honestly thought that his opponant let him off the hook.

Never beg a 40 dollar hooker...specially after she's just turned down your mom's credit card!!
UGH Marrone was awful. Too bad this guy he fought was a complete pushover, because otherwise he would have easily finished off Marrone.
In other news, that kid in the first FNF fight yesterday was impressive. 5-0, 5 KO. I think his name was Pat Lopez. I get the feeling he'll be fighting on ESPN for a second time very soon.

Marrone would have made a great opponent for Mike Tyson in the 1990's when he only fought squash matches. But honestly, the dude sucked. He almost got knocked out by a no name cruiserweight.(the opponent was 198lbs).
He will probably build up a good paper record and then get knocked out by a real prospect.
And how could you compare him with Peter. Peter atleast has some god given tallent, that could lead to something.
He's only 20, but he either needs to find something else to do, or work really really hard cause right now he's not impressive. I think Teddy was right, he doesn't seem to know what he wants to do, is it stay outside and jab and move or bull inside. He needs to figure out what kind of fighter he is, cut that bouncing shit out, and really work on his defense cause his chin seems iffy
Well guys I'm new to this site and actually just got home from my workout at House of Champions Gym www.houseofchampions.net (the home of Mike Marrone, I get lessons from Mikey). Honestly, I've never seen anyone like this kid. Yeah, he looked bad that one fight. He said he never saw the punch and those are the worst ones. You're body can't prepare. But he learned a lot.
Now, let's take a closer look. 14-0 with 11 KO's as a pro. Turned pro at 17 before graduating H.S. Was 3rd in the U.S. Olympic trials as a 17 year-old heavyweight. Mike has been fighting and known Duva since he was 9. Has only lost 2 fights in his life. He's small, but does he ever have power. Of course with Duva's stable and Buddy McGirts gym right up the street from HOC here in Vero, Mike has seen plenty of quality sparring. Most, like J. McCline pay him and quit after a round or two. Then, there's Zeus the 6'7" 320 lb. guy Mike knocked out of the ring. Check him out on the Toney-Peter undercard at the Staples Center 9/2. Best of all Mike's a good kid, going to college, good grades, focused and works harder than anyone I've ever seen and believe me between between Buddy's guys and Duva/Gus Curran's guys that come through the gym e.g. De La Hoya, Gatti, Judah, Camacho, etc. none can keep up with Mikey. Give him a couple years he's just a kid.

The bouncing is a sign of indecisivness... He, in essence has no idea what his identity in as a fighter... He is not an in the pocket fighter./.. He is not a range fighter... He in a ?... I thing once he finds his nich, we shall see![]()
