'The Bout'
~ Ossie Ocasio Scores Win Over 'Sleep-Walking' Jimmy Young ~
Little-known Ossie Ocasio, a sharp-punching Heavyweight from Puerto Rico scored a surprisingly easy
10-Round Split-Decsion over #1 World-Ranked Jimmy Young.
Young, at a heavy 220 lbs. never seemed to get untracked, as Ocasio {205 lbs.} used an assortment
of fast left-jabs and quick right-hands to the head over the first-half of the bout, as Young waited and
waited for the youngster to wear himself down.
Badly behind on Points, the Philadelphia veteran tried to rally over the last 3-Rounds, but came up short,
as the 20 1/2 year-old Ocasio was too swift and elusive.
Scorecards

Triple 'B',
The Referee was Buddy Basilico who did a magnificent job as the Third-Man in the Ring.
He was 'not' a scoring Official in this bout.
I have watched this bout several times, and I had it a 'Draw' { 96-96 } or 4-4-2 in Rounds.
My Score
Jimmy Young ............ 5 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 5 --- 5 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 5 = { 96 }
Ossie Ocasio ............. 5 - 5 - 5 - 5 - 4 --- 4 - 5 - 4 - 5 - 4 = { 96 }

Triple 'B'
Jimmy Young vs. Ossie Ocasio 'I'
Jimmy walked into the Ring very thick-waisted. He was listed at 220 lbs. compared to
Ossie Ocasio's listed weight of 205 lbs.
Yet, Jimmy looked at least another +5 Pounds heavier.
"The Bout"
Round 1 >
Jimmy took the lead, and slowly pressed as Ossie stayed on the outside. Jimmy landed a
few decent body-blows, but Ossie was 'defiant' and not the least bit intimidated by Jimmy,
as he dropped his hands and smiled.
Ossie made a good charge late, and backed Jimmy up to the front-left Neutral-Corner and
tagged him with a good overhand right.
{A 'close' Round, that I scored 'Even'}
Round 2 >
Ossie was fast here, and took the play away. Jimmy looked very slow, as he was out-sped
by the younger 22 year-old Puerto Rican. Ossie did land a few 'crisp' punches into Jimmy's
head.
Ossie was very aggressive, and backed Jimmy up for much of the Round, while landing an
assortment of punches to the body, and 'slashing-punches' to the head.
{A 'solid' Round for Ossie}
Round 3 >
Ossie was again 'spry', and scored with a variety of fast but light-punches. Jimmy was again
'sluggish' and did little other than landing a few punches into Ossie's body.
Ossie was again aggressive and simply out-worked Jimmy, who was content to wait and
counter, and then hold.
{A 'good' Round for Ossie}
Round 4 >
Ossie was again aggressive early, and was the one making the fight over the first {1:45},
by scoring with light-combinations.
Ossie was 'sticking' out his left-arm like a measuring-stick, while poking at Jimmy's
right-eye. Jimmy 'complained' of being thumbed.
Then Jimmy started to 'wake up', and he made a solid charge by raking over Ossie with
a steady attack, while driving him backwards starting at the {2:00 Mark}.
Jimmy was using his size and harder punches to dominate the latter part of the Round
from the {2:00 to the 2:45 Mark}.
But Ossie made a strong-charge late at the {2:45 Mark}, when he tagged Jimmy with a
barrage near the back-right Ring area, and then drove Jimmy into the back-right Corner with
several hard punches to the head.
{ I scored this Round 'Even'}

looks like Ozzy already took the early lead and did a good psych job on Jimmy young
Triple 'B'
Ossie Ocasio had a very good corner.
* Johnny Tocco > {Johnny Tocco's Gym in Las Vegas}
* Bill Prezant > {Top Trainer from New Jersey}
* Archie 'Moore' Ocasio > {Ossie's older brother, who was well-respected in Puerto Rico}
Ossie was in great physical shape, and the 'Fight Plan" was to out-hustle and out-work
the slow-starting Jimmy Young over the early going.
Basically, to steal Rounds to build up a Points lead.
Jimmy Young vs. Ossie Ocasio 'I'
Round 5 >
Jimmy finally got it 'in gear', and pressured Ossie with a solid body-attack, of double
left-hands and short right-hands into the Ossie's sides.
Again, Ossie 'thumbed' Jimmy in his 'left-eye' causing Jimmy to complain to Referee -
Buddy Basilico.
Ossie tried to rally late, but Jimmy had neutralized his attack by smothering him
on the inside.
{A 'solid' Round for Jimmy}
Round 6 >
Jimmy again was the effective aggressor, as Ossie was backing away and looking to
throw an occasional counter.
Jimmy landed several good punches on Ossie who was not as active as he had been
over the first 4-Rounds.
Again, Ossie stuck out his left-arm like a measuring stick, and poked Jimmy in the eye.
Jimmy really got mad this time, and raked over Ossie with some harder punches over
the latter-half of the Round.
{Another 'solid' Round for Jimmy}.
Round 7 >
Just as it looked like Jimmy Young had taken control of the bout, he went 'back-to-sleep'.
Ossie was the aggressor here, and scored with repeated quick {but light} punches, as
Jimmy plodded and did little else.
Ossie was in complete control from the start of the Round, as he worked hard as he
fired in fast left-jabs, and quick 'one-two' punches into Jimmy, sending him into the
Ropes and covering up.
With the Round in his 'pocket', Ossie then foolishly thumbed Jimmy in the left-eye again
{at the 2:38 Mark} by sticking out his left-arm like a pole.
Referee - Buddy Basilico 'admonished' Ossie for the foul, and nearly took a Point away from him.
{A 'solid' Round for Ossie}

Jimmy Young vs. Ossie Ocasio 'I' > Round 8
Coming out for Round 8, Jimmy was clearly having a bit of trouble here, especially
after getting badly out-boxed in Round 7.
Round 8 >
Jimmy was more aggressive here, and started to slam in his best punches into Ossie's
body.
Ossie was completely on the 'defensive' and moved around the Ring on the outside.
But, the young Puerto Rican was too 'smart' to get caught along the Ropes, or in a
Corner.
Jimmy attempted several 'big' right-hand crosses, but he missed on each occasion.
Still, Jimmy was completely dominant in this Round.
{A 'solid' Round for Jimmy}

After Round 8 comments >
ABC-TV Announcer - Chris Schenkel, stated that the bout was headed for a 'Draw'.
ABC-TV Announcer {Referee - Arthur Mercante} had Jimmy ahead by a score of 4-3-1
in Rounds.
Chris Schenkel >
"I'm really impressed with Ocasio. He's put up a good fight, and I'm sure that Jimmy
completely under-estimated him."
"He could be up by 1-Point. His corner is really excited, and they are giving him all sorts
of instructions."
Arthur Mercante >
"I have Jimmy up by 1-Point, {4-3-1}. But it is still anybody's fight."
"I think Jimmy will now look to throw the right-hand cross in the 9th Round. Ocasio is
starting to straighten up now, and he's not bending low like he had in the earlier Rounds."
