The fight lived up to the hype. "This fight will not go the distance, someone is getting knocked out."
Alvarez took care of business with style and dispatch. I don't think this fight adds a lot to his rep, but it certainly cements what's already there.

I think the question should be will Kirkland go back into retirement to avoid being exposed further.(I think that's the first time I've ever said "exposed about a boxer because I hate that term. But this fight was exactly as it was supposed to be. Planned by GBP, HBO, and Canelos team. It wasn't boxing, it was staged reality TV)

James comes to fight though. I would pay to watch him anytime. As long as he is healthy. I don't think Canelo expose him because that fight with Ishidah 4 years ago already showed Kirkland just as vulnerable. This knockout was pretty brutal. Hopefully he rest up and turns out alright.

So what, they rest him, give him a couple club fighters to KO then feed him to another top level fighter? I just get sick of these shams. Meanwhile Andrade is out there literally begging anyone to fight him. The champion begging non champions but instead they pull guys out of retirement for entertainment value? F that caveman crap, I want to see excellence in boxing. Excellence is proven when skilled fighters get in the ring. Put good fighters against good fighters. But no, the fans don't care about excellence, as long as there is blood

I agree Ron. I like a war, but there needs to be some artistry behind it too. The best fighters have that line drawn whence their better careers. Kirkland showed club level skills today thus he was stopped very easily. Seeing that kind of matchup doesn't satisfy me even though I have a thing for seeing a proper stoppage. Kirkland hadn't been in a ring for years and wasn't ready for that. It wasn't right and all parties should know better. It's like putting an aggressive mouse in against a cat. It doesn't matter how brave the mouse is, it is still going to have its entrails all over the kitchen floor. Bravery alone is not enough.

Funk me, that was a brutal sparkage.

Last thing Kirk's cornerman said to him was - "watch out for his right uppercut"

it went on as planned, he fought a guy who is one dimensional, never consistent, and had been inactive for nearly a year and a half, should have been rematching Lara or Trout rather than facing Kirkland in the first place, this was nothing more than Canelo/Angulo 2, but well the ginger head fans are gonna make this seem like it was a rising of the phoenix moment when it really wasn't, Mayweather schools him again if they ever tried to sell a rematch

Kirkland is over rated , I would like to see Canelo fight GGG.
Was a fun fight to watch mind you.

I've been saying it for the last two years. Kirkland is a club fighter at best. The skill level was worlds apart. Canelo vs GGG would be a great fight. This is a fight that would really test GGG.

Kirkland is flawed for sure but he's still a unique test for Canelo: a huge punching southpaw who throws a ton of punches.

Kirkland was not an easy out. Canelo made it look easy, but the shots that got Kirkland out of there were highly skilled counter blows, and Canelo had to weather a storm and absorb some punishment before he could get that knockout.

Kirkland isn't one of the best at 154, nobody would claim that, but he does bring a lot of fury with him and it's an interesting style to go up against. In Canelo's last 5 he's fought 3 southpaws. He's fought Floyd, Lara and Trout, three ultra slick movers/counter punchers. He's not fighting soft opposition.

GGG knocks the cinnamon out of him.

Well it was an easy night for Canelo, all he could do was beat what was put in front of him and he did it in spectacular fashion.

I thought the second knockdown was great as well, the way he leaned out of the way of the left and caught him with that uppercut, I know Kirkland left himself open to it but it was still a great punch, the knockout punch was awesome though.

I like Canelo and I want to see him get back on track.

Next fight will be a PPV against Cotto, people are saying GGG but I just can't see that happening anytime soon

What happened to Kirkland is the reason why Cotto has ducked Alvarez 3 times. But he can't duck him forever. Alvarez is forcing his hand. He did his part by nearly decapitating Kirkland. Hopefully Cotto does his by beating Geale. Who is less than a threat than Kirkland

I agree Kirkland is a puncher and Geale is now garbage , I don't think Cotto would beat Canelo.
