Socialist should be an evil word everywhere, but that's fine. The term "Liberal" has been coopted by the Democrat Party who ironically are some of the whiniest close minded bigots in the world. Given the REAL definition of the word and it's connotation of being for maximum individual freedoms, of course it's good....but you must understand the people in America who call themselves "liberal" are the same people who called themselves "Progressive" and those "Progressives" were and are horrible people and just like I said whiney, close minded, bigots.
Right our Unions are no WAY LIKE YOURS, unions got holidays and fair pay and safe working conditions for it's members is that such a bad thing,
Fuck Lyle you are paranoid not everybody is a communist, your out frankly is you experience
with corrupted unions in YOUR side of the pond, Yep a strange out look indeed.

Bigot: a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc. : a bigoted person; especially : a person who hates or refuses to accept the members of a particular group (such as a racial or religious group)

I "unfairly" dislike those groups? The definition is very vague but says specifically racial (which none of the groups listed are) and religious (which none of the groups listed are)...I guess you COULD extend it to political, but if that's the case then their views of ME would also be just as bigoted.

Chalk and Cheese. Lyle when you and never actually seen a bean let alone flicked one Beanflicker refer to Unions that is not the same as Unions in Europe and particularly not the UK. Yeah you get some two faced money grabbing bastards within some Unions but it is nothing like the rampant bullying and corruption on your side of the pond. At the end of the day in the U.S.A the bottom line seems to be the dollar, profit, business, money is King. You invented the litigious society that is now being foisted on everyone else. Nobody sued anyone until American lawyers saw dollar signs in workplace accidents. Unions are supposed to be there to stop that happening in the first place. You may well be a good employer and I have no reason to believe otherwise, but there are plenty of Bosses who are happy to exploit people and unions are there to stop that happening. The Hilarious thing is that the communist bogeyman that you have invented to pile all your nations sins on like some old Hebrew scapegoat is China. A country where American corporations are only to happy to exploit the lack of unions and pay workers a pittance to slave away in terrible conditions, often to the detriment of their health all to preserve a bigger profit margin back home. You couldn't make it up.

I can't speak for all unions in the US but the one I worked for one so politically charged it made me uncomfortable. Despite the unions own laws saying they would not use any union dues for political campaigns they openly did so. I saw so much raunchy stuff, in the end there main concern was there own self survival. During one meeting I attended the union boss referred to the sitting governor as Satan. The guy really made himself out to be an idiot. My brothers company actually ended up voting the union out after having it for a couple years. Of course I've heard of first hand positive experiences from People I know who work for union companies. Union have done a lot of good for a lot of people, they definitely helped in the formation of better labor laws during the early years of industry but they can do some funky stuff here in the US. The place I work for now is non union but I have to say they have an excellent human resource staff that goes out of its way to work out any issues. I'm not saying unions are all bad or unnecessary but if one were to familiarize one self with labor laws there is a lot of protection for workers already in place. If workers want to unionize, more power to them. I was very disappointed with the politics of the government union I worked for. I got a lump sum of money for being laid off even though I wasn't laid off, I was moved to a different department during layoffs. You would think I would be happy but it's money I didn't ask nor fight for.

Anyway, I went off topic with that money thing. Unions in the US can be a very strange beast.

    It is official:

Wisconsin state budget signed by governor
    includes:

    SEVEN-DAY WORK WEEK
    Copied:
Factory and retail employees will be allowed to volunteer to work seven straight days, a change from current state law that says those workers must get at least 24 consecutive hours of rest for every seven-day stretch.

    Quote:
“In the legislative text as it now exists, there is no protection for ensuring that such a choice is truly voluntary,” Gordon Lafer, Economic Policy Institute told

According to the Wisconsin Budget Project: employers could use the regulation to schedule “just-in-time” shifts (when employees have to make themselves available for all shifts with no guarantee they will be 8 hours per shift. So: 7-day work schedules could = the same number of hours as before —

Republican politicians in Wisconsin claim that companies will be able to boost their production with more workers willing to work overtime.

An example of what a potential President Walker could do if elected.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!

That is capitalism at its worst. Screw the workers until you get 24/7 production at near minimum wage with little workers rights.
