Hopkins is a great boxer...or atleast he was good enough to destroy Trinidad...& a lot of people rate Trinidad...right?
Trinidad was a great fighter. He won his fights without holding and hitting, rabbit punching or kidney punches or tuning guys around and punching them directly in the back of their head or leading with his head to not only avoid getting hit but also to land a head butt on somebodys chest ( I fight and trust me that hurts and takes your wind ) and too many more to name. Tito had the occasional low blow but that was just clumsiness on his part exept of course the Vargas fight but I don't try to cover that up.
BTW, in case you didn't know, Tito started his career at 140 while Hopkins started at 175. Tito moved up and mowed down all the top fighters in on his way up winning titles from the most recognized champs all the while Hopkins was fighting the same bums two or three times to pad his stats. You tell me who deserves more credit. Oh wait I forgot who I was talking to so never mind I already know what you're going to say.

IF he doesn't, he's 42 and put on 40+ pounds since he was 41 to make the fight.. Joe C vs Bhop could easily happen at 175 soon.. And either one would get major credit for winning as compared to the other fight imo.
Am I alone in thinking a Maskaev Hopkins fight would be absolutely awesome.

I entirely and 100% agree with B-Hop that fighting Calzaghe pales in comparison to fighting Maskaev.

Don't get hung up on the quality of the fighters, it's totally irrelevent, it's the fact that Hopkins could challenge and very possibly win a heavyweight title!

Forget the fact that the heavyweights are S***, this is still a potential legendary achievement in the making if Hopkins takes it.

If he beat Calzaghe it would mean nothing whatsoever to his legacy as Calzaghe's status would be diminished by virtue of losing to Hopkins, 'he just wasn't as good as we thought' would be the cry.

If Hopkins beats Maskaev it matters not a toss whether Oleg is any good, all that counts is that Hopkins won a world heavyweight title, a feat that in 20 years would have people speculating whether he or Robinson was the greatest middleweight of them all.......
For once, I agree with you Bilbo. You are not alone on this one.

Reading the quotes, it didn't sound at all as if Hopkins was 'dissing' Calzaghe.

If 'dissing' means 'direspecting', then I don't know where the title for this thread came from.

He didn't, but implying that beating Maskaev is comparable Calzaghe is dissing (you're an ignorant fool to think otherwise )

Hopkins fighting Joe pales in comparison to fighting Maskaev? The quality of the fighters is irrelevent? Wow, thats probably the worst statement I've heard on this site.
