Default Ricky Hatton comeback at 47!

Former multiple world champion Ricky Hatton has announced his return to boxing.

Manchester's Hatton, who turns 47 in October, will fight the United Arab Emirates' Eisa Al Dah in a middleweight bout on 2 December in Dubai.

Organisers say the contest will be a professional bout but it is unclear if it will be fully sanctioned or if it will have conditions like Mike Tyson v Jake Paul, where there were shorter rounds and a limit on number of rounds.

Hatton fought Marco Antonio Barrera in an exhibition in 2022. His previous professional bout was a loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko in 2012.

The fight was announced during a show promoted by Al Dah in Dubai on Sunday, with Hatton confirming his return via livestream.

Hatton, who won world titles at welterweight and light-welterweight, revealed he should have been in Dubai but could not attend after accidentally injuring his eye with his sunglasses.

"I wish I was there but I had a little bad injury on my eye. The main thing is the fight will take place and I can't wait, I'm really looking forward to it," said Hatton.

"It's just one of them freakish things, I caught one of my sunglasses in my eyes and I'm very fortunate it's not done any permanent damage. It's just scraped the surface, so fingers crossed we're good to go."

What's his weight ? He's probably Jarrell Miller weight. No offence Ricky but it's not like you were a legend of game, a generational fighter like Pac-Man and I don't even like his comeback. But this ? No Ricky. Why ? You're a trainer and you have a good stable of fighters. You're doing well at that. You ain't skint. So why ?

Also Ricky had a young man's fighting style, square on closed range with short fast steps and slipping side to side with his gloves glued to his face and shooting upwards jabs. It was very physically demanding. You need to have great cardio, due to the constant foot work, and forcing the other fighter to fight every second of the round and explosiveness to use it effectively.

We saw it in the Mayweather fight. Early on he was forcing Floyd to fight at a pace he didn't want to, to the point where I thought the fight was even at halfway.

But you can't just half ass it or cruise through a fight using Ricky's style or you'll get nailed. It's a style that demands you not only be in great shape, you have to be a gym rat sharpening your combos and getting your timing right. It was kinda Cus D'Amato style.

As we saw with Tyson against Jake Paul or even 20 years ago, Tyson against Danny Williams or Kevin McBride

    That style ages horribly

And it's gonna look even more horrible on a less talented 46 year old man who has abused his body for the past 10 years named Ricky Hatton and that'll be true if (I assume) he'll be fighting someone his age.

I need to see his interview for myself, but at first glance I think this pretty sad news. I thought he had got his head round retirement, and I get that it’s hard to let it go, but like @Denilson3.0 said, his style isn’t suited to 46 year old comebacks.

    Yeah I thought that.

Can only assume it's the area. Know he never left Hyde where he grew up and had it built there. Fair play. He spends a lot of time in Tenerife too now I think.

This is a really bad idea. But ffs if you are going to do it, exhibition or professional bout, make it the UK for one last fan raucous walk. Not being trucked off to Dubai like a grinning chimp. Just adds to the carny vibes but money shouts down everything now.

He’s shagging that Claire Sweeney now, so maybe she wanted to move back to scouse land or something.
