    Default Calzaghe deserves respect

"I was pounding the valleys at 2 in the morning, until well gone 3 in the morning every day for months: through the rain, snow and fog! While everybody else was tucked up warm in bed! Jeff Lacy was probably tucked up in bed, having completed his work on the treadmill at the health spa in sunny Florida. No comparison! I was prepared to go to war, he wasn't.. not truly. That was the difference. That's what it all came down to. He wasn't prepared for me, not truly. So he soon went into his shell and that allowed me to shine. He wasn't prepared for 25 years of dedication and frustration being unleashed onto his skull and face. If I didn't keep pumping my arms when I was running those mountains, I'd of died because it was so cold out there. I could feel it in my bones! That's the kind of condition I got myself in. It was my destiny, I had sacrificed my whole life for boxing and had a lot of frustration throughout my career and I'm telling you, he'd of had to kill me that night to beat me!"

How long is he suppose to live off the Lacy win? Calzcrappy needs to stop being a coward and fight Kessler.

Thats a nice paragraph about his training, he certainly did have amazing stamina during the Lacy fight.

Beating Kessler will take him from good to great, do it Joe!
    Thats cricket

That's pretty much always been his training routine as well, he knows most of the posties by name in that area because they're usually the only others up as early as he is doing his roadwork. There's always the clips of his dad in the nice toasty car behind him opening the window to shout encouragement, but only really there to provide the light from the car's headlights.

No sh^t. This is getting so old. He is starting to sound like some old azz guy in a retirement home talking about how he killed 50 nazis with his bare hands during WW2.

I agree. Joe has had a nice career, but his biggest win is against Lacy. Lacy was nothing more than a novice champion. JMO, but he need to step it up quick before hes over the hill. Fights with Kessler and Taylor prior to hanging them up would give him ATG creds. Not fighting the likes of Manfredo.

Wheres the link for this? It dosent really sound like something I would expect Joe to say (though im new to his career). Seems like he's talking a bunch of sh^t and I didnt think he was that type of guy.

"Jeff Lacy was probably tucked up in bed, having completed his work on the treadmill at the health spa in sunny Florida."....not cool

"So he soon went into his shell and that allowed me to shine."...so if Jeff hadnt he would have beat you down?

"He wasn't prepared for 25 years of dedication and frustration being unleashed onto his skull and face."...that justs sounds stupid for a champ to say.

"That's the kind of condition I got myself in."...so if you didnt train like you were in Rocky 4 Jeff would have kicked your ass?

I dont know. Just dosent sound right somehow.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion here...but let's not all get so bent out of shape over it.

While I agree with you yoitsdan...it is time for Joe to take out Kessler...that should pretty much silence all other critics.

Joe did do a great thing in beating Lacy...no matter what anyone says...it's a pity that everyone else has forgotten what Lacy did to his other opponents. Props & respect to Joe...those that won't give it...well they just don't know.

Technically...there's no one else out there that needs to be beaten.

Rational boxing fans & fans of Calzaghe know that Joe is the good...all the rest of that shit speak is nothing more than bitterness.

Yes yes yes, totally agree, Calzaghe ain't cashing in that cheque his mouth cashed a long time ago if he doesn't take the Kessler fight, but he really did prove his worth against Lacy, like you said.

It's a pity that people refuse to acknowledge that Lacy's previous opponents were mediocre to poor. And in reality Lacy was severly overrated. Those that can't see that...well blame it on what ever you want. Stupidity. Intoxication. Doesn't really matter.

Don't give me that shit VD. I bet you were the worst Lacy fanboy going when the hype was big, Sheika, Reid, there were good fighters who Lacy dominated.

I personally blame ito n every American fan, promoter and pundit who went out of their way to contact the British press and to hype up their boy way out of all proportion, and way beyond his actual skills. Reports from America made Lacy out to be a legend killer who would knock Calzaghe out, but he beat him to a bloody pulp.
