When was the last time you completed your life long ambition that you worked 2/3's of your life for? Get f***ed.
Everyone's entitled to an opinion here...but let's not all get so bent out of shape over it.

While I agree with you yoitsdan...it is time for Joe to take out Kessler...that should pretty much silence all other critics.

Joe did do a great thing in beating Lacy...no matter what anyone says...it's a pity that everyone else has forgotten what Lacy did to his other opponents. Props & respect to Joe...those that won't give it...well they just don't know.

Technically...there's no one else out there that needs to be beaten.

Rational boxing fans & fans of Calzaghe know that Joe is the good...all the rest of that S*** speak is nothing more than bitterness.
It's a pity that people refuse to acknowledge that Lacy's previous opponents were mediocre to poor. And in reality Lacy was severly overrated. Those that can't see that...well blame it on what ever you want. Stupidity. Intoxication. Doesn't really matter.
What people refuse to acknowledge is that Lacy was & is a hell of a fighter.

He fought some game opponents to be so early in his career & he took on the best Super Middleweight of the last 5 years...so just out of curiousity...at 168lbs...Jeff's fighting weight...who would you rather him have built his wins over?

That's thing right there. Lacy was still building. He barely had 20 fights. He had and still has a lot to learn. It was obvious he was in way over his head. He was considered a "champion" cuz he won a vacant title from a mediocre non-champion. Yes, Joe beat his a**. But it was more cuz of what Lacy lacked than what Calzaghe had.
So then at 168 who would you have had him face?

Mundine had lost, Kess was built & viewed as hype, Beyer had lost & deemed soft, & then there was Joe.

Who would you have rather him face?
He would of been in over his head against Kessler as well. Mundine would of been decent. The guy who beat him Manuel Siacca would of been better. Antuan Echols would of taught him a lot. And believe it or not Bruno Girard wouldn't of been a bad choice. He would of been able to see how it is to deal with a boxer. There's plenty of names. Bottom line is Lacy had 21 fights compared to Calzaghe's 40. Do you not see how that might of been a problem?

Calzaghe's the best super-middle of the last 10 years, by miles.
Based on what? Defending the crappy a** WBO title so many times? Beating shot, past there prime ex champions? Or is it cuz he beat a young title holder who wasn't as good as he was made out to be?
Based on the fact that he fought everybody and looked better than everybody.

No sane person can say otherwise..
Fought everybody? Damn I must of missed his fights against Glen Johnson, Sven Ottke, Roy Jones, Markus Beyer, Antonio Tarver, Mikkel Kessler.

Still though VD, can you really tell me any serious flaws in the way Calzaghe actually fights? If you can think of 5 then I'll be very impressed.

You don't know that he would have been in over his head with Kessler.

Mundine would have been decent...but he like the other names above had been knocked clean off of the radar. Echols wasn't even fighting worthy at 168 when Lacy was making waves. He had lost to 160'ers & dropped back down during Lacy's big push forward.

Those names wouldn't have clarified the picture anymore than the ones that he fought for fight fans.

Bottom line is...Lacy was doing just fine & proving that he was worthy of the praise...he just chose to step up waaaaaaaaay to fast...but the thing is...if you could land a fight with the best in the world to prove that you were better...you would do it too...Lacy thought that he could live up to his own expectations...he couldn't.

That being said...there was no one else out there better for him to take...he took the top man & he lost.

Not sure that there are 5 flaws to his game...but he leaves himself to open when he flurries & he trades to much when he should be boxing.

That being said...it hasn't cost him has it?

That was a challenge to VD, but props, those two observations I have made as well.

Wack just did. But why does that even matter? I never once said Joe couldn't fight and was not skilled. Just that he's overrated, a coward, not great and still has a lot to prove. There's a diffrence between being a great fighter and being a skillful fighter who knows how to fight.

You cant take anything away from Joe's win against Lacy. He schooled what was considered the next big thing at super middle. But you cant, at this point consider Lacy a bonafide great fighter. A win against Sheika dont get it. Didnt sheika get whipped by Scott "the human speedbag" Pemberton?

If Lacy develops in a great fighter, Joe will get his due down the road.

If Joe wants the recognition he craves, he needs to knock off some bonifide bigtime talent. I'll stick to my earlier post that wins against Taylor and Kessler would get him his just dues. These are fight that can be made.

I cant justify him as an ATG at this point. I'd hold him in higher esteem win or lose if he made these fights.

Me? Im semi-sane. So why wont Joe fight Kessler? And that "Joe wants a big name Ameican" is just crap. He isnt going to get a big name American. The sooner Joe faces that reality the better. Joe vs Kess would be huge in europe. Joe vs some guy off "the pretender"? Maybe they will show that on ESPN7......... :P

If Joe doesn't fight Kessler...I'll have some severe issues with that.

The thing is...if he does...he can hang em up & be fine in my book.

The champions will always have a name that haunts them...there will always be ONE more challenge out there...but I truly believe that if he takes out Kess...he'll want a big name over here in the US.

Amazing how quickly people will turn their backs on you. I think its disgusting to be honest. I still think Lacy is a dangerous fighter with skills to boot!

They wanted nothing to do with Calzaghe.

Apart from Glen Johnson, and Kessler only after the Lacy fight.

I know Joe Calzaghe is special. Now all he has to do is step up the competition and defeat legends or up and coming legends.

Joe has made it clear he wants a big name American. Will it happen? I doubt it. Who here knows who the hell Joe is? Other than die hard boxing fans, no one. Which means Joe brings nothing to the table $$$ wise. This is just idiotic. Who is the moron that gives Joe professional advice? Some drunk fool from his local pub? I mean really, come the F on!
Go fight that joker from "the pretender"? Fine. If Joe feels thats a smart move, well Joe isnt so smart. If he was to take out Kessler and unify the SMW that would change EVERYTHING. Now we have a basically unknow european with ALL the belts. Im sure then "Mr.big name American" would have a financial reason to do battle with Joe. Otherwise Joe is going to end up searching for fights and having to take lame ones which will neither help his status or pad his bank account. For the love of god.........
