Default Chuck Liddell vs Wanderlei Silva

Just curious, does anyone know when this match was supposed to be scheduled? I heard it was pretty much a done deal

Just about the only way its a done deal is because you can stick a fork in it... turns out Pride was just dicking around UFC, and then UFC jumped the gun with the announcement. Pride pulled out of the deal, and it wasn't going to happen. However, from what I heard, after Silva got his head kicked in, Pride tried to bring it back, but UFC said they didnt want a loser coming over to fight.

So right now, its very improbable to happen, but theres still a chance.

I still think Dana's primary motivation was to pump up (generate sales revenue) for the Chuck/Babalu fight. I never understood the whole "Chuck's gotta get by Babalu first" aspect. Why? We also never heard anything about "..but if Chuck loses, Babalu fights Wandy." It would have been a non-tital shot so why was there a number 1 contender twist to that story, and why did it involve Chuck's name ONLY?? Purely marketing, IMO.

Truth is, Dana had little to gain from that fight. If chuck loses, it would water down the UFC name. More to lose than gain, IMO.

If Chuck loses, they lose big. If Chuck wins, they win big. There legitimacy would be undeniable at that point, to me. Basically, it was a "risk big to win big" scenario with the UFC really putting its balls on the line. I see it as more of a ballsy move than a dumb one.
