To Brockton Bomber - I don't think Marciano should be number 2 but lower, Jack Johnson wasn't all time great based on what I know (maybe good for his period) so I don't think he should be in there. Foreman should be higher.

To spekterscript - Jack Johnson above Ali is nuts, Marciano above Lennox is nuts.

To Punisher136 - I agree with your points not your order.
Jack Johnson decimated the competition so his place in the top 10 is secured. In his autobiography Muhammad Ali says that Joe Louis and Jack Johnson are the 2 greatest heavies of old. Also in sports documentaries Jack Johnson's domination in his division during his time is compared to Babe Ruth's dominance in hitting home runs. This is quite a statement.
I just think the modern day boxing is much better than the early 1900s so Jack Johnson
wouldn't mean much in say the 60s 70s Heavyweight division.

Jack Jackson fighting the likes of leon spinks, Joe Fraizer, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, George patterson, Archie Moore. Ali beat all this fighters. See my point!

I see where you are coming from. Ali beat all of those fighters during a time when the heavyweight division was very competetive. I don't think Jack Johnson beating any of those guys (that Ali beat) prime vs. prime is out of the question. I am looking at physical attributes along with technique. Johnson was faster than all of them except Ali and probably stronger than all of them except Foreman and Norton. Modern boxing has made improvements since the early 1900s. Reliance on jab and higher held hands for defense are staples of modern boxing. Does that mean we disqualify PBF, Roy Jones, Wilfred Benitez, and Pernell Whitaker as all time greats in their respective weight classes? I think not. Speed, agility, chin, heart, stamina, and power all come into play in determining all time greats.

It's no accident Tyson only had one successful run in the Heavyweight division.
He Could have been Great, instead he was Great, but he could have been better.

Tyson just can't take pressure, in life and inside the ropes.

this list is compiled of heavyweights that i know stuff about.

    1. Rocky Marciano- "his record is crap because all his opponents were bums" If thats your reasoning, would you rather fight a slightly over the hill walcott or a bum with a pretty record like monte barrett? Some people might not know but back then all the champs were the older fighters because they had the experience and knew how to fight. Now onto the man himself. Marciano had insane power and a solid chin. You couldn't hurt him but he could end the fight in one punch at any point in time. Probably one of the worst technical boxers to ever live but as he said "Why waltz with a guy for ten rounds when you can ko him in one?" I have him at #1 because you could only beat him by decision and to do that back then you'd have to survive for 15 rounds and i don't see many fighters doing that except maybe.....

    2. Muhammad Ali- What he lacked in "power" he made up for it with speed and precision. Fastest effective heavyweight of all time. His jab alone won him numerous fights on cuts. He threw flurries faster than most of the welterweights around today. Great chin to boot. Fighting him on the outside is an absolute deathwish. I think be could possibly survive 15 rounds with marciano and box his way to a one-sided decision.

    (here comes the hate mail)
    3. Mike Tyson- His combination of speed, power and defense have never been seen in a heavyweight before or since. Say what you want, at his best tyson beats or greatly challenges any great heavyweight.

    4. Joe Louis- his only losses are to other high quality heavyweights of his time in Schmeling, Charles, and Marciano. Surviving 15 round with this guy is a lot to ask for. Easily one of the heaviest punchers of all time

    5. Larry Holmes- great jab and solid technical fighter.

    6. Joe Frazier- Over came his weaknesses by developing a great inside fighting technique and a phenomenal left hook.

    7. George Foreman- What a 240 pound heavyweight should look and fight like. One of the best power punchers of all-time. Maintained enough power to make a comeback late in his career and not many heavies can come back years after their prime and become champion.

    8. Lennox Lewis- only lost twice and both can easily be written off as flukes. Great puncher and uses his size well.

    9. Evander Holyfield- It's very hard for a smaller fighter to jump into the mix of the best heavies and have a significant impact. Great technical fighter with the heart of a warrior.

    10. I can't fill this spot because i can't make up my mind so any one you think deserves to be mentioned as one of the 10 best heavies throughout time belongs here.

    Dear Punisher136

Just when I'm getting ready to write you off as a total delusional rambling imbecile, you come back and make a intelligent, incitefull and comprehensive post like this.
    Well considered and presented.
Its obvious that the #1 spot Must go to a figher who was UNDEFEATED thoughtout his entire career. That should seem obvious, If he has beaten EVERY fighter he faced it is only reasonable that he should be placed at the pinnacle.....of........what...?.........Marciano?? oh...

I thought it said VALUEV........forget what I said before...you still an idiot.

    P.S. Chris Byrd is #2.

Check the records of Dempsey and Johnson, they are crap compared to the

people in the list. Most the fighters on the list have won the title more than once,

and some have defended the title for long periods of time.

Marciano - retired undefeated, but wasn't a good boxer, and only defended the title 6 times fighting has-been boxers whose prime was long lost.
Jack Johnson - Defended the title 8 times, never won another title after that.

Jack Dempsey - Won the title and defended it 5 times. Is he or Marciano better punchers
than Holmes, Tyson, Foreman? I don't think so.

Riddick Bowe - Won the title twice, but only defeated once. A couple of defences with each title. I prefer Riddick Bowe over Dempsey who would of been beaten by Bowe and Marciano who would not win against the more mobile heavyweights of today.

hypocriticaly u put joe louis as #1 whose oppositon was no better than rocky's--u cant diss marciano 4 his oppostion, and praise joe louis it makes no sense

I agree with undefeated on this one. I think hypocritically might be harsh because he might not see the contradictions in his logic and order. I agree that joe louis can't be put at the one slot and marciano be dissed for his opposition.
