Can anyone think of a better fighter than Pernell Whittaker at anticipating the next punch ?

I don't think there has ever been a fighter that i know of ( last 10 years if truth be told heehee ) who had such tremendous instincts !!

I really hate it when people compare Floyd Mayweather to Sweet Pea its like comparing Peas and Carrots !!

Floyd sits on the ropes with his hands cupping his face or using his shoulder to good effect whereas Sweet Pea would sit right in front of you make you miss by ducking and weaving and then counter and skip out of range with his amazing footwork .

Watching Pernell i think he did a really good job of disrupting the other fighters rythm he would be so tantilisingly close making his oppenent waste energy and load up and making the other fighter fight his fight .

He did this to good fighters in their prime also .

Add to the mix blurring handspeed and a beautifull repitoire you had a true alltime great figther .

Only saw Camacho get Bashed up when he was old but i got the Chavez fight downloaded .

    Excuse my iggnorance .

whitakers an all time great in my opinion. the people he beat and sometimes didnt even lose a round. you could throw a bag of rice at him and u wouldnt hit him. like u say theres no comparison between mayweather and whitaker. both are very good at what they do but they do things differently.

if you want to see what whitaker can do to another great fighter watch his bout with azumah nelson

If Whitaker would have had powerful hands he would be the greatest fighter of all time bar-none. But hey you can't have it all.

Whitaker didn't have natural power, but he could have KO'd a few more guys if he had fought completely flat footed. Part of the reason for his lack of KO's was because he always focused on defense first, so when he threw a punch, he was already thinking on moving out of the way to slip the counter.

When he was losing late in the fight to Hurtado, he went flat-footed and KO'd him on one big straight left hand.
