....Puerto Rico as state 51 eh?

Well here is why it won't happen

#1 The Puerto Ricans are a proud people and won't soon mesh into the USA fold

#2 They already have a status as a quasi-state and they don't pay taxes to the US

#3 We would have to change Old Glory.....it has 50 stars.....where the hell would you put the 51st

It does make sense for the US though...you make "American" boxing a lot better and you get to broaden the US tax base and it also potentially increases tourism within the "USA" thus helping the economy.

I do think that a more serious issue is what to do with the illegal immigrants....they are a HUGE burden. I know why people want to live here but do it legally, and be a good citizen ( and our nationalization process may need to be overhauled to do that more effectively)

I normally stir clear on topics like this and especially with your posts Lyle, but the above statement caught my eye.

Lyle, I'm sure that the 1st thing on the 'To do' list once PR is considered a state is....

TO DO LIST

- Boxing (as item #1 to address)
- Immigration


Now I know this is a boxing site and you more then likely used that as a mere example but I just thought it was funny.

The United States said that this has to change. There are a serial events that have to happen first but it will come before year 2015 when we have to vote State or independency. It's allover the news here.

Oh and by the way for 100 year we are consider US citizens.

Honestly im not a fan of the idea..Not that it affects me in any way shape or form...

But to make it a state of the us seems that it would make puerto rico loose some of its identity..

Fair play when you from a certain state then you are proud of your state and thats your home..

But changing from a proud nation to just another state just doesnt seem right..
