Default Oscar-Floyd NEEDS to live up to expectations

This fight has the potential to rejuvenate boxing or deal yet another crippling blow to a sport that has taken many throughout the years.

There will not be another stage so grand for boxing to make a good impression for a long time if ever again.

I am in my early 20's and even friends of mine who follow pretty much every sport seem to have little interest in boxing. I only know a hand full of people who follow the sport on a regular basis. This fight is going out to hardcore fans and even those who only have the slightest interest in the sport. The only thing worse then it not making a good impression is if it makes a BAD one.

Oscar and Floyd can't just be fighting for their legacies they need to fight for the sport. Any kind of negative controversy, early stoppage, etc. would probably be one of the last blows boxing could take before just becoming a sport with a "cult" following.

I read the sports section in my newspaper everyday...they cover everything, even small stuff like highschool sports, boating, horse racing...but I never read anything about boxing.

If DLH-PBF is an incredible fight it could give boxing a shot of adrenaline that would last it another decade. The sport NEEDS this too be a great fight.

For the record I am 99.9% confident that it will live up to expectations. But, if it doesn't... then "oh fuck"

most people in their 20's don't have the balls to get into boxing.....this is a true man's sport....mma..martial arts...easier to do....not as hard.......damage is not near as much.....no real "Tap Out" in boxing....and because you really need superior skill to excell at boxing most 20 somethings don't want to put forth the effort...they want what comes easy to them......and boxing is never easy.....
It feels good to be back home.

also...don't forget the medical "Lies" that have been assoiciated with boxing....the "Brutality" of the sport is what keeps alot of writers from putting it in the papers......not to mention the fact that the champs don't fight the other champs or #1 challengers anymore...of course you will lose fans if you don't put the best against the best...
It feels good to be back home.

I think you misunderstood my point, Ragu. Basically, i'm guessing the main demographic for boxing fans in male ages 25-45. The thing is that isn't being replaced because of a lot of factors, but the sport is losing popularity and fans aren't being replaced.

But a fight like PBF-DLH is the one fight that can be made that will attract a large amount of casual fans...or even people who may have no interest in boxing but will see the fight because it will be so widespread and become fans.

If this fight is a disappointment then boxing will lose one of it's greatest chances to make a good impression and will continue to drop in popularity. It doesnt have to do with the "balls" of the sport.

My point was how important it is for this to be a "good" fight because it's going to be the most influential fight in the sport for a long time.
