I think too many Hatton fans act as tho Ricky's win over KT was one of the all time great wins, but take a look into it further and it looks a whole lot less impressive.
Ricky was fighting a 36 year old Kostya who was probably in his prime aroun 1999.
Kostya fought Ricky in his own backyard.
Kostya fought against Ricky with a british ref who undoubtedly officiated in favor of hatton.
Kostya had fought 3 times in 4 years before that.

Now ask these questions.
Would Ricky have beaten 1999 in Sydney with an all aussie crowd with an aussie ref who bent the rules in kostyas favor?

The answer is no.

Now Rickys next big fight is against another aging warrior in Castillo.
This will be a more impressive win if he does it, yet still he has not fought a top champion in their prime...
Will Ricky's fans claim a victory against Castillo as another all time great win? Its not.

Last question, when Ricky is 36, had maybe a dozen defenses of his title, has not fought regularly, and is way past his prime, will he go to Australia, with an Australian ref and fight an up and coming aussie champ in their prime.
Not in a million years.

It's all a bit irrelevant now, I agree that Hatton would not have beaten the Tszyu of 1999-2001 but the fact remains Kostya got old and lost in 2005. He won't be the last great fighter this will happen to. Boxing has a huge list of guys who lost to fighters they would have easily beaten in their prime, Duran, Chavez, Hearns, Jones jr and perhaps even DLH has gone to long.
Good luck to Hatton i say, he won and should now get the rewards, Kostya was great and he won't be forgotton but you can't fight on forever. I wish he was 10years younger and he could take on Floyd!! At least he didn't lose to a bum!

Ok, obviously this will upset a lot of Hatton fans, but it's not like eagle is hating..he brings up legitimate points. Not that anything can change but that's what forum's are for, debate right?

To add to eagle's points...

KT was also battling a chronic shoulder injury AND when he was considering a comeback not long ago he mentioned that he felt he lacked some of his previous fire before he fought Hatton.

I always feel that Hatton was at his absolute best that night..maybe at an apex he will never reach again. And he needed to be at his best against a Tszyu that obviously didn't have all the pieces fitting perfectly in place. Still, most fighters never have everything "perfect" when they fight.


That was a great fight, let's not forget how close it was! I think KT would've pummeled hatton out in Austrailia or the US..I remember that cheer Hatton got when he bashed KT in the balls..the brits went crazy...they loved it! How often do you hear such applause for an illegal blow?

The point im trying to make is that when hatton beat tszyu many on this forum wanted him to be a p4p top 4. But is he really that good if his greates win in a 40 plus fight career is against a 36 year old who was on the way out?
Name another fighter he has beaten who could even rank in a p4p top 30? None yet still some people want him in their top 10. dont add up.

Well i don't know but Collazo isn't bad fighter slick figher who has decent skills i have actually said in another thread that im not sure Hatton should be top 10 p4p but like i said in other thread i'll wait until Castillo fight and i do agree with you his only big win is against an older Kostya but it was still great performance from Hatton no doubt.
