In his prime he had alot more power watch Eubank fight thats pretty good performance.Originally Posted by Mr140
Calzaghe is a hard fighter to work out because he has only had 1 really big fight against Lacy perhaps he could of helped himself by fighting Reid in a rematch soon after there 1st meetingOriginally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
Thank you ice i am not as knowledgable about the lighter weight, i am more of a heavyweight kinda of guy when it comes to my knowledge of the sport.
I disagree. Watson trained specifcally to negate Eubanks style and it was extremely effective.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
Calzaghe's style is a whole different thing entirely...to say that that Watson would beat Calzaghe is to say that Watson was ready for a completely contrasting style and one he hadnt trained for. Thats a bit much methinks.
Calzaghe would stop him.
Watson could change styles quite well except McCallum but in his fights with Benn and Eubank i was very impressed how he changed his style and he would push Calzaghe the most out of Benn Eubank and Collins.Originally Posted by miles
But you did say "the Watson that beat Eubank in the rematch". The Watson of that night would have been overwhelmed by what was placed in front of him.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
Maybe you mean to have said " the Watson that trained specifically for the style of Calzaghe could have stretched him to the later rounds and perhaps a loss on points?"![]()
What i mean is the Watson that trained for Eubank with same intensity but changing his tactics slighty would beat Calzaghe on points Watson was very talented.Originally Posted by miles
Watson was talented but he wasnt RJJ...Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
Beat Calzaghe on points? I dont see how he could possibly have done that....how exactly?
Workrate Talent Defense.
Watson never threw a 1000 punches in a fight. So workrate is out. Talent is too ambiguous a term. And defense? Eubank found his way through that defence.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING

How many do you think he threw in Eubank fight ?? probably 1000 and that was against quality fighter Calzaghe was fighting a punchbag Eubank found away through most peoples defense but Watson still won first fight imo and 2nd one he was winning easy as pie until he got caught and Watson showed good defense in Benn fight aswell.Originally Posted by miles
I think in the Lacy fight Calzaghe was pushing a 1000 too. Lacy was a quality opponent. Watson did get caught so that means his defence was faulty and his chin too. Watson was a good fighter but not as good as you like to maintain.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
I think Lacy was just a hype machine
