Default The difference in being HURT and STUNNED

I've noticed that a lot of us tend to throw the word HURT around when referring to boxers. What I think we need is a little clarity. Being Stunned is a momentary thing. Being Hurt is when you're ready to get knocked out. Here are some examples.

Corley STUNNED PBF. PBF later HURT Corley.

Judah STUNNED Tszyu. Tszyu later HURT Judah.

Judah STUNNED PBF. Baldomir HURT Judah.

In rd 1, Hearns STUNNED Hagler. In rd 3, Hagler HURT Hearns.

FYI, Judah never HURT Tszyu or PBF. He stunned Tszyu w/ his speed in rd 1, but he was never hurt.

Well unfortunately I have been both, Hurt means you can actually feel the pain(which is good) and being stunned means you lose your equilibrium for a few and you don't feel the pain at that moment. Either one is bad but being stunned is worse because you really don't have full control over your body and it makes you very acceptable to a more hurtful blow.

I think you've made a worthwhile distinction. The word "hurt" seems more serious than "stunned". I suppose "rendered senseless" would be 1 step further still.

A few other terms that boxing fans often use, sometimes indiscriminately:

    bum
    cutie
    brawler
    journeyman
