I was very impressed with last night's fight. Fantastic action from start to finish, and it was such a hard one to call, but I had wanted to see Diaz win, and though he might have edged it, but I wouldn't have begrudged Morales either if it was given to him. Good on Diaz though, he took all of Morales' best shot and keep plodding and plodding and plodding.

For me it was a BS judging again!

I did see Morales wining by1 or 2 points

I had Morales winning too. But going by the recent trend in top fights I can imagine how it was scored for Diaz.

If how a fight being scored is evolving then surely there needs to be more clarity on the issue, because the way I see it these judges are not being held to account by their decisions at all.

that seems to be the trend nowadays in big fights. i also had morales by at least 2 pts. that's why boxing is losing some of its fanbase to ufc.

Bullshit doesn't even begin to describe it. That decision was made purely because HBO need to invest in new stars, and it would have been bad in the long term for boxing had Morales won (which he fucking did!). All you had to do was look at both faces to see who won. I'm gutted for Erik, because he really deserved his legacy extended.

    1. That was a Top Rank PPV, not an HBO PPV.
    2. David Diaz isn't going to make HBO any money (and he's older than Morales), they would have no reason to want him to win instead of Morales.

I'm glad that it was a good fight, I really didn't expect it to be and while I haven't seen it, I'm glad Erik didn't get the decision. Diaz is an incredibly mediocre championship fighter and if Morales went tooth and nail with him, then he definitely doesn't belong in the ring with the other champions at 135. So I'm glad he got a good fight to send him off and this does nothing to take away from all the great years he's given us. Good on to Erik to retire and good for Diaz for putting on a good show.

    Thanks for the RBR CC.

Really? I could have sporn I saw a big HBO sign. My point was that the emphasis is on creating the new star. Morales retiring with the win wasn't good for those involved. Diaz was always fighting on. I was pretty fucked off with the decision at the time anyway. Now I've had time to reflect and calm down...I'm still pretty fucked off.

But Diaz is never going to be a star, not even close. He's 31 and not that skilled of a fighter. A washed-up Morales is still a bigger star than Diaz could ever dream of being.
