No he should not! Mayweather was established and Pavlik came out of nowhere. He exceeded everyones expectations and came out golden.
What does being established have to do with fighter of the year? All that matters is you do more for boxing, and you do more as a boxer. Beating a former #1 p4p fighter who is way bigger than you, then beating a guy who is the universal 140 pound champion and on the top ten p4p list is bigger than what Pavlik has done. Oscar is way better than Miranda or Taylor, and Hatton certainly is better than Miranda, and probably better than Taylor p4p.
Disagree with almost everything said here. 1st of all, Oscar was never #1 p4p, and most importantly, take a look at the guys who've previously won fighter of the year, it's almost NEVER the #1 p4p fighter in the world because it's less impressive to win when you're favored than to win when you're the underdog. That's why Glen Johnson won a couple of years back. Floyd's only win came the year he crushed Diego Corrales, and that was a pick'em fight according to Vegas odds. Pavlik was expected to lose to both Miranda and Taylor, and he didn't just win, he knocked them both the f@ck out, and most importantly, breathed life back into the middleweight division which suffered tremendously the past few years largely due to Taylor's lackluster bouts.
Weren't the odds on Taylor-Pavlik pretty close, and I know a lot of people who thought Pavlik was going to beat Miranda. Personally I hadn't seen Pavlik until that fight, but I knew that Miranda was overrated from other fights. Also Oscar was p4p champ after he beat Pernell Whitaker because Roy wasn't doing anything impressive. Also Pacquaio won last year and he was ranked #2, and started the year at #3 p4p.
Oscar's never held the top slot in the pound 4 pound rankings. You can go back and look at Ring Magazine archives.

Pavlik had 3 fights this year
Zertuche a guy who never even tasted the canvas before, he put to sleep on his feet. (IMO KO of the year)
Miranda was wide spread to beat the crap out of Kelly and Kelly dominated the entire fight and put him to sleep
Taylor, the reconized Middleweight champion and in the top ten of most P4P lists and he was put to sleep.

Three guys that have never been stopped until they got in the ring with Pavlik.
And none of these guys are bums or chumps.
A lot of people here called Kelly an overhyped great white hope till now. I think he has proved himself to be reconized for the nomination at least.

its not just who you beat, it is how you beat them...

Mayweather won a SPLIT DECISION over a a guy he was expected to win.... and he hasnt even fought hatton yet..

pavlik ko'd to guys that were suppose to beat him.... THAT DOES MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.....

taylor, a guy who has never even really been hurt, got knocked unconscience.....

DLH got ko'd by B-hop, B-hop couldnt even beat JT... I dont see how anyone could see that(DLH-Floyd) as a more empressive victory than (pavlik-taylor)

hardly anyone even liked the DLH-Floyd fight,
Pavlik-Taylor was one of the best middle-weight championship fights ever... that is another huge thing voters look for in their decision for FOY

Alot of what people look for in fighter of the year is excitement and how they win like said before me Oscar at his age and in a weak division was not as Impressive of a win as a Taylor who is young in prime undefeated to me that is a better win
