    Default Good read on Mayweather!

This is just a portion of an article i was reading from 15rounds.com

    http://15rounds.com/Columns/mswann/pacquiao-112407.php

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

The article on BBC Sport was titled, “I’m better than Ali--Mayweather.” Well at first I thought that he must be saying that he was a better dancer than Laila, who was in the finals of “Dancing with the Stars” last year, while Floyd was axed early in this year’s competition. But it read that he meant Muhammad Ali, so then I figured that he means that he can take the 65 year old Ali today.

But the article also read that Floyd thinks he is also better than Sugar Ray Robinson and said, “I can quit today and be known as the greatest fighter that ever lived. I respect what Robinson and Ali did for the sport. But I am the greatest, and this is my time.”

First of all, Robinson was even a better dancer than Floyd. He moved up from welterweight to middleweight because he had run out of opponents. Sugar Ray KO’d 108 opponents and won 173 fights. He was a five-time middleweight champ, one of the all time best at 160, and unquestionably the best ever at 147. Robinson fought the best in the game in three decades.

It’s too early to evaluate Floyd in terms of all-time status, but it’s safe to say that at age 30, unless he does something miraculous in his final years of activity, his name will never be spoken in the same breath with Ali and Robinson.

Somehow Floyd seems to have become convinced that his boxing success translates to popularity and respect. Is he just deceiving us, trying to hype the Ricky Hatton fight, or has he been deceiving himself for believing what amounts to boxing heresy?

In all honesty, I was a huge fan of Mayweather's boxing skills and abilities, but cause of this statement, I no longer respect him what-so-ever...

Even after the artilcle you still have to respect what Floyd has done, if not him personally, IMO. Just what SRR did AND the time in the last century when it was done speaks louder than Floyd can. All those great fights, plus the sheer #, coupled with the fact of how hard it was in a racially divided country for him to do what he did, along with others. Floyd, if he really believes what he says, should really show more respect for the people who paved the way for him to be what he is: which is a superbly talented fighter with an ego bigger than need be and a loud mouth. He should let sleeping dogs lie and be happy he'll have a place behind SRR.

Come on....his own fans walked out on one of his fights. How many GREATS have had that?

Good fighter with no personality or respect for anyone but himself.

Floyds always said that though? This is old news. I don't agree with him but like Legion said it's different Era's. Best kept seperate from each other because of how different they were. Too many variables to judge who was better than who from one particular era to the next. Just appreciate everybody who has been the best of their era.

There's no doubt that Floyd is an amazing fighter, probably the best active today, but I think it is getting more and more difficult to compare today's fighters with those of the past who will have fought 100+ bouts. And to say he's better than Ali and Robinson is just Mayweather talking big.

There's more to boxing than just being undefeated, and i don't think Floyd will have faced the challenges that fighters in the past have.

Not really. Ali at his absolute prime was as good a boxer and athlete the sport has ever seen. And to think he was a heavyweight...mind boggling really. No question Floyd possesses great skills and defense...but he will never...not now...not after he retires be mentioned in the same class as an Ali or Robinson. He probably wont even crack the top ten all time greatest list. Floyd only wishes he can talk himself into the top spot as the ATG.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Mayweather will be considered an ATG when he retires, he has fought the best that his era has to offer and beaten them, going on to be a multi-weight world champion and bamboozling some of the best boxers and brawlers of our time. He isn't there with Ali and Robinson, but he is not far off and I think he'd be in at 9 or 10 in the all time list.

Ali did most things wrong, where as Mayweather is one of the best technically skilled fighters out there Mayweather beats Ali in skills by a landslide.

The same class as Ali ?? Ali wouldn't even be in top 10 if he wouldn't of got lucky decisions against Norton, Shavers, Young,

Ice, you normally have logical posts and responses...but that has to be one of the dumbest things i have ever read on this board.

No it isn't im saying *if* he lost those fights and imo he did and alot of people will agree.

You can make an arguement that he was lucky in atleast 7 of his fights.

It takes enormous talent, skill, training, commitment & determination to be even half the boxer Floyd is..

It only takes 5 braincells to be as big of a wanker as Floyd too...

He's one of the top top boxers that has been, and he spends the first 20 seconds of a special about him going on about how much his rings and necklace cost... Who the f'k does he think he needs to impress??

The guy is a total f'ckin idiot who can box good...

Seriously, all the commitment he's had to put into things over this life,,,,, he put absolutely NONE into being a decent person..... In my language, that translates into someone who doesn't deserve respect from one human being to another...

From a boxer to a boxer,, fine, he's earns respect...

But as a human being,, which is what he is, he's the P4P biggest loser of all time!! He can put that as the headline to his next article... At least he can rest assured no one will dispute that statement...
~ He thinks he's a Tornado,,,... F'ckn real Tornado is comin'...! ~Hidden Content
