Well since Von Milash started a favorite flicks thread; I'll start a favorite books thread. Should be interesting to see if anyone likes to read as much as I do

I do like to read but only because I do A Level English so it helps in that sense like, I like to read novels, modern and old mostly and of course autobiographys, favourite novel now The boy in the striped pyjamas and old The Scarlet letter, favourite autobiography James Blake.

One book I'd really reccommend is the Life of Pi by Jan Martel, quite possibly the most bizarre and best novel I've ever read.

I also love Kingdoms of the Wall by Robert Silverberg.

But my all time favourite novel is probably Mervyn Peake's Titus Groan, the first of the Gormenghast trilogy of books.

Completely fantastical and utterly utterly brilliant. He went crazy in the end but nobody has ever had a more poetic and creative use of the English language as him.

Goodbye Darkness - William Manchester (A memoir about his time as a Marine fighting in the Pacific in WW2 - the best war memoir I have ever read, and I have read hundreds)
Soldat (Memoir of a German officer in WW2)
Panzer Commander - Hans Von Luck (another German memoir)
The Lord of the Rings books
100 Decisive Battle from Ancient Times to the Present
The Serpent and the Rainbow - Wade Davis (this guy is my hero - his current job is explorer in residence for the National Geographic Society)
Heavier Than Heaven - Charles Cross (Kurt Cobain bio)
The Stand - Steven King
Ortona/Juno Beach - Zulkhe (Canadian battles in WW2, the author lives in the same town as me)
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich - Shirer
The Wheel of Time Series - Robert Jordan (I actually stopped reading them after the 7th book because its just dragging on and on, but the early books are awsome.

Being English Bilbo, you ever read Lumley? I have read his vampire books several times; takes a while but I love them!! Also Demogorgon was a great book I read several times. I have a library in my house and always have my head stuffed in a book at night. Follet, Deaver, De Mille, Forsythe, Tolkien{I read the Hobbit and LOTR at least twice a year}, Preston/Child, Daniel Silva, Higgins etc, etc.. I have thousands of books, lol.

I know this was directed at TM, but I'm also a huge fan or WW2 literature of all sorts. I've probably read hundreds of book on it - the memoirs are my favorite.
I actually collect all sorts of stuff from WW2, I've got some really cool shit. My mom (RIP) always used to buy me stuff like that for my b-day etc. I have an Iron Cross that was actually presented to a German soldier for bravery, among a lot of other cool stuff. One of my other favorites is a zippo that a member of the U.S. Marines carried all throughout his tour of duty in Vietnam.

Yeah next to WWII studying, Vietnam is the other one I have alot of stuff on. We just keep killing each other. People don't realize how many people dies in WWII. And people forget or never knew the nightmare Stalin put his people through. I would love to go to Russia; and I couldn't even tell you why. But what a sad culture with rock hard people. Stalin is the biggest mass murderer to ever walk this planet. Anyways, I digress and ramble as usual.

Thanks TM; I'm going to order it today or see if my girl can find it today when she goes out. Sounds like good stuff that I could delve into. Another good book is The IRA, from Tim Pat Coogan. Great read if you're into the "Troubles". Looking for a good read on the Serbian conflict also, and Chechnya. Any recommendations?

I think its going to be a while before anything definitive is written on either,hell every time we think weve got the full story on Nam and Cambodia,some little tid bit slips out.
And on those two unless Kissinger has a death bed confession,I dont think we'll ever get all the details
