He also had one of the worst defences going, his balance was poor at times, he got knocked down by journeymen and past their best fighters who weren't really good to begin with.   If he couldn't knock you out he looked poor check out the Mcoullough and Soto fights,  he lost his first major big time fight in a 1 sided boxing lesson were he got humilated then went back to fighting bums, had 1 last fight were he looked really poor and got booed by his own fans then disappeared. Â

Look at Morales career then look at Naz's,  huge difference !!
Yeh, I was a huge Naz fan, but no way he ever beats Morales. You can't knock Morales out, and no way Naz had the skills to outbox him!!!

Was a little bored, so I thought I'd go back and dredge up an OLD, OLD, OLD thread. I always thought this was a pretty good one, as it invites posters to post opinions that might be considered unpopular in the forum. I myself posted on it, with my thoughts (still the same) on the Golden Boy.

Anyway, that was 2005. What do the newer saddo'ers feel are some unpopular opinions of their own?

    1. I think Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers to ever live and deserves to be mentioned in the same light as all the greats including guys like Robinson, Greb, Pep, Duran, ect ect ect. The only thing keeping Floyd from this status is A) his cockyness and piss poor attitude and B) the fact that he never fought between 1920 and 1980.

    2. Muhammad Ali is over rated as a person. I don't think he was the hero, the "freedom fighter" that people paint him out to be. He was just another draft dodger who just happened to be very clever and manipulative and had a large podium to speak from.

You have to remember, when he was pardoned from Military service due to his subpar intelligence test (which is VERY dubious, as we all know Ali was a very intelligent, quick witted individual). Only when they redrafted did he care, and stand up again the war. When it wasn't his ass going over there, he could give a damn. Then when he had to, "ohh I have no quarrell with the Viet Kong."

Hell of a boxer, hell of a character, the BEST HW of all time, but totally overrated as a person. Who else cheats on their wife out in the open and still remains squeaky clean in the public eye. Even the President couldn't do it.

    3. Rocky Marciano was overrated. I hate to say this, because I love the guy. Who doesn't? He was a man's man, he trained his ass off and he went to war every time out. But look at the compedition he fought. It drives me nuts to see him ranked in the top 3 of all time. His nuthuggers will constantly point out his undefeated record, which is impressive but anyone who saw the first Lastarza fight knows that there was a little luck involved too.

I think, like Wlad, he benefitted from a very weak HW division, and if he fought a bit later he wouldn't have been #1. I think Sonny Liston would have murdered the guy, as would have Ali, Foreman and Frazier IMO.

Very good post... and very good points. However, there's one more thing that should be mentioned about Floyd. His fans want to bestow the title of best 147-pounder on him, and I think he has yet to earn that. When he fights and beats the best WWs out there.... THEN I'll sing his praises along with everyone else.

    Here's my list...

    -Calzaghe is overrated.

-Between Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao, and Marquez, Naz would have went 0-4 had he fought all of them.

-Decades from now, Floyd will be looked more as a "ducker" than a great fighter.

-Wlad is much better than everyone gives him credit for. It's bad timing for him to be around while the division as a whole is so weak.

-I still think Cotto can beat Floyd. Losing to Margarito didn't change my opinion of Cotto one bit.

-Roy Jones is not completely shot.

-Jermaine Taylor is still a top fighter.

What a great thread. I'll try to come up with some of my own.

    - At this point ODH the boxer is nothing more than a drama-queen, attention whore. ODH the promoter is attempting to establish a monopoly on boxing, which doesn't bother me as much as it should.

    - If Zab Zudah could still make 140 he would knock Hatton out within 6 rounds.

    - Winky Wright is done as an elite fighter. He's one of my favorite fighters, and he's still a very good fighter, but I think his age, coupled with moving up and down in weight is going to catch up with him very soon. If he fights a serious puncher like Pavlik he'll be stopped for the first time. I hope I am completely wrong on this one by the way.

    - Guzman is going to take Campbell to school, much to my chagrin.

    - P4P lists are far too subjective, they mean sweet fuck all, and they piss me off to no end. Nobody knows how Calzaghe would fare if he was 5'6 and fought as a goddamn lightweight.

    - Speaking of P4P lists, Steve Molitor will soon be fixture in the top 10.

    - I thought Jermaine Taylor beat Pavlik in the rematch. Barely. It was so close though that I don't really object to Pavlik getting the nod.

    - Sepultura may well be the best metal band of all time based upon the albums Chaos AD and Roots. Sorry, had to throw that one in there.

I believe I've posted in this already. Oh well.

Jeff Lacy is capable of beating Joe Calzaghe, or at least he was at the time they met. It was my stance before the fight and everytime I watch both of them pre-each other I think the same. I know the general consensus is that he was overrated and always sucked, but I happen to think differently and I think Lacy could have made Joe pay when he squared up inside. Joe beat Lacy on the inside with punches that had little effect on Lacy, I think he was just mesmorized by the situation. Oh well, I know this is a very unpopular opinion.

The heavyweight division has been entertaining the last 5 years. There are some very good heavyweight fights, lacking on talent but still some very good fights.

Eddie Chambers is a future champion. I know, I know, but he's really been sold entirely to short because of 1 loss.

Well, since ya asked....IMO ,cough : HBO rushes & pre packages (Some) of its fighters to the front of the camera prematuraly and recklessly.

Watching fights on a laptop/Desk top vs. big screen TV are two very different things ....entirely!Not the full experience!

Foremans KO of Moorer was not a one punch KO-Ali's KO of Liston was legit and it landed-Leonard deserved win over Hagler-Tyson was beat before the opening bell Vs. Holyfield-Heres a doozy.....John Ruiz should be given some respect-Heavyweights are over rated-Jim Lampley is a biased company fanboy & a used car salesman-Chavez pulled a no-mas vs.Randall...plain & simple-

Just because you have never seen a fighter in the ring does not mean he should be dicounted from history, discussions or not recongnized through the accounts of historians.

Roy Jones is an accident waiting to happen.

Time to crash out for the A.M

    Tyson was overrated.

Oscar is one of my favorite all time boxers.

RJJ is one of the if not the greatest p4p fighter of all time.

Ricky Hatton is far from Shot.

I get excited about Wlads fights.

Floyd Mayweather is far too good for anyone in the WW division at this time.
