I should preface this post by saying that I am by no means a huge fan of "the contender", nor am I fan fan of the majority of the fighter who compete under the contender banner.Originally Posted by bond007

I suppose I can sort of understand the sentiment that they are taking a short-cut in respect to their popularity, but in a sport that has been pushed to the periphery in the way that boxing has I can understand any fighter trying to get ahead in any way they can.
Its not like Don King, or Bob Arum, or Dibella, or any of those equally slimy bastards have never pulled strings, or done much more corrupt things in order to secure big fights (and big paydays for their fighters and themselves). UFC fans don't seem to have the same problem with competitors who enter their ranks via TUF, in fact these guys seems to be applauded and encouraged, with their victory in that "reality show" often securing them major fights, long contracts, and big title fights. I just don't understand the virtol directed at the contender fighters; if you don't like the show, then don't fucking watch it, but don't deride the people who are risking their lives for your entertainment. If in 10 years boxing is in the mainstream consciousness again, we might all be looking back talking about what a great services shows like the contender provided.

My guess would be Delahoya, for obvious reasons ($$$)
At this point he would make more $$$$ fighting Floyd in a 2008 Mega fightOriginally Posted by frozensolid_702

Why is it Zab Judah the one fighting Margarito?

I have to say most of cottos fights are entertaining coz of the fact it only takes a slight wind and hes nearly out on his feet. He is very over rated. Cotto fan boys think mayweather fights nobodies....check his resume you wankers. And oscar dela hoya is still very dangerous, i guarentee he would knock cotto on his arse.
Stop talking nonsense idiot.Didn't you choose Judah and Mosley to beat Cotto>?And still you don't respect him?!Guarantee my ass..A slight wind, you really are a prat aren't you?At least we won't see Miguel quit on his stool or get KTFO by Vince Phillips anytime soon?Originally Posted by Snakey

Sorry Snakey but that is a ridiculous comment, Cotto was badly weight drained at Jr Welterweight and his punch resistance was nowhere what it is now at Welterweight. And even At Jr Welterweight Cotto was only rocked by good punchers like Ricardo Torres who almost had 100 percent KO record, and is now a Jr Welterweight World champion. And DeMarcus Corley who even rocked Floyd Mayweather Jr, Cotto at Welterweight took flush punches off good punchers like Judah, Mosley, very well and comeback strong that is the most important thing and he has shown his punch resistance is much better at Welterweight plus he is much stronger. Cotto has only ever been on the canvas once and that was from a push, Cotto has the kind of the chin that can be dented but its hard to crack it completely. I agree he can be hurt but he also has amazing recovery power's, and the most important thing in a boxer is if they can comeback from being badly hurt which Cotto has and has passed with flying colors, i think your being way too harsh on him or you don't know the full history on him one of the two.Originally Posted by Snakey
It's not the same thing because Cotto wanted to fight Mayweather first and de la Hoya second, but they instead decided to fight each other. Second, Williams is tied up in a fight with Quintana, Margarito will be fighting Judah around the same time, and Clottey is probably waiting for his mandatory against Cintron (I guess Cintron was available, however). Thus, who can Cotto fight at the time. Plus, this is a set up for a fight with Margarito, thus you can't compare the two because Cotto does not seem to be ducking ANYBODY.Originally Posted by eagle
As Rican said, firstly it's a set up for a Margarito fight and secondly,Cotto is coming off wins over Judah and Mosley, and Gomez isn't exactly a bum is he? And secondly,Floyd has fought Mitchell,Gatti and Brussles before his admittedly impressive 07.So how can you question Gomez as a gimme opponent in the build up to a Tony fight?Stupid thinking.Originally Posted by Rican

you guys point out Its a travesty the way Floyds career has unfolded with his comp, but if you were comparing careers up to this point Floyd is by far superior has achieved more and earned his titles and has beather a few top flite fighters in their prime... Most will point out that Cotto dosent call himself the greatest in the sport today like Mayweather does...News Flash so does every writer and organization claims Floyd is currently the best in the biz![]()
