    Default breathing

i don't really have the proper breathing technique down but i have the main idea. exhale from mouth when throwing a punch and breathe in through the nose.

but the thing with exhaling sharply through the mouth is i still get gassed out. it doesn't seem like it really helps.

so i asked a fellow boxer in my gym who has a lot of experience what i'm doing wrong and he said something that nobody mentioned in other threads.

he said you have to exhale sharply and expend all your air. all of it. becuase for me when i exhale sharply i don't expend all my air. i just exhale some air sharply with the ch sound. but yeah. he said to exhale and expend all your air to throw 1 punch. as for combos. divide your air supply evenly so by the time your combo ends, then you will have expended all your air.

so what you guys think? i know other poeple in threads mentioned exhaling air when throwing a punch but no one really said to expend all the air.

i foudn this pretty interesting. because i just thoguht the way i was doing it was okay or something.

Well First and foremost I feel that a guy who gets gassed quickly in sparring because of poor breathing is in trouble during a fight.

You must get your fitness up so as to have sufficient fitness to get by without worrying about breathing at all.
I've had my nose broken in the ring and twice had it full of blood making breathing impossible, so I had to work with impeded breathing.

As for when to exhale, again I feel thinking about it is a problem, just box as well as you can man and let the breathing come with it. I only concentrate on my breathing between rounds.

I agree with Donny. I don't think it's your breathing that's your problem right now, I think that you need to work more on your anaerobic endurance. Don't worry about your breathing technique right now. What you need to do is work on developing your anaerobic system by doing interval training and sparring. Once you have your conditioning up to where it should be, then you can think a bit about your breathing technique. Start off working on breathing while you are on the heavy bag and then bring it over into the sparring ring.
