He could justify a third fight with Oscar for money and whatever reason he could come up with and people like Taeth would still back him. Anyone who knows even the slightest bit about Ray Robinson knows that one of the things he's most famous for is being the toughest negotiator of any fighter in history. He was famous for threatening to back out of fights if his cut of the money wasn't increased to his liking. He's considering revolutionary in that way, in that he didn't get ripped off like most fighters from that era, he made fights that made sense from a business perspective.

It seems like most of the time when you disagree with me, you just say "I'm crazy" or that I "don't know what I'm talking about," instead of taking the time to put together a reasonable argument that will prove me wrong.

If Cotto is still undefeated next year, then I'd tend to agree with you. As I've said many times here, if Floyd beats Oscar again, then Cotto becomes both the most worthy opponent for Floyd and the most financially attractive opponent for Floyd, so there will be no excuse not to get a deal done.

Disagree with you here. Cotto and Pavlik were worthy candidates, but the Ring has absolutely nothing to apologize for in selecting Mayweather. He truly was the Fighter of the Year for 2007.

First of all.............

How can Mayweather be avoiding Cotto when Cotto's next two fights are pretty much set? Last time I checked, Cotto was fighting Gomez, followed by the winner of the Margarito/Cintron fight. Seems like Cotto's schedule is pretty full for a while.

Alfonso Gomez - imagine what the Mayweather haters would be saying if it was Floyd fighting Gomez instead of Cotto fighting Gomez. They sure as hell wouldn't be trying to sell it off as a "keeping busy fight"

Margarito/Cintron winner - Great fight for Cotto, but to think that either one of those guys would pose a threat to Mayweather is laughable. Nonetheless, it's a good move for Miguel to unify his titles so that the Mayweather vs. Cotto fight will be that much bigger ($$$), and more importantly, more meaningful.

Second of all.............

Who says that fighting Oscar Delahoya at 154 isn't/wasn't a helluva lot more dangerous than fighting Cotto at 147? Delahoya at 154 is a lot tougher that Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, and Antonio Margarito for sure.

Lastly...............

The Mayweather vs. Delahoya fight ended in a SPLIT DECISION. The last time that Mayweather fought a fight that was that close, he fought a rematch. What's wrong with giving a rematch in a close fight that appeals to 98% of boxing fans and THE REST OF THE WORLD.

If Cotto had the chance to fight Delahoya, he would do it in a heartbeat.






After reading some of the responses in this thread, it should be very clear to everybody that nobody is avoiding Cotto, especially Floyd Mayweather; but that there are a lot of delusional members of this forum that are avoiding the truth when they say crazy nonsense like "Mayweather is avoiding Cotto."

I even remember a lot of people on here claiming Oscar won the fight. So to fight him again makes sense. especially for the dollar he'll make from it.

mayweather beat hatton, fair enough, blah blah blah the thing is he did it at 147 not hatton's best weight at all, at 140 we would of seen a better fight (i'm not saying hatton would win but only that it would of been a tougher fight for mayweather. as for the mayweather cotto situation mayweather is clearly avoiding cotto. after being asked several times about cotto after the hatton fight by larry merchant, he just seemed to ignore what the questions were, he said he wanted a vacation, but is fighting de la hoya again in september, nobody really wanted a rematch between the two and is now working with the wwe, wtf , the fans are wanting to see mayweather - cotto happen, as a best in the world why is he not giving us the best fights by fighting the best at weltweight. i will admit hatton is ducking witter also but no one should expect hatton to fight one of the best at 140 after just suffering his first defeat which ended by tko. i would much rather have him face a average fighter first then go on to the bigger names once he has his confidence back.
