yes, i was told that sean penn approached eddie vedder to actually star in the film, but eddie turned it down and said he'd prefer to do the soundtrack which he did really well i might add!
but could you imagine eddie vedder playing an 18yr old? LOL
i mean isnt eddie like pushing 40 right now lol
watched this other night - was an ok film
BUT whey are they sensationalising him ?
If you ask me the guy was an idiot who went into the wilderness with little preparation - not a good idea if you are planning on living there.
That guy at beginning him gave him some boots for god sake which he didn't even have (incidentally the guy who drops him off in the beginning is not an actor and is the actual guy who did drop him off in real life - the last person to see him alive !) Apparently if he had had a map he would have also been able to walk out of there in a day or so (even with the river being like it was).
Actually just found this on net which just about sums him up.....
Alaskan Park Ranger Peter Christian wrote: “I am exposed continually to what I will call the ‘McCandless Phenomenon.’ People, nearly always young men, come to Alaska to challenge themselves against an unforgiving wilderness landscape where convenience of access and possibility of rescue are practically nonexistent […] When you consider McCandless from my perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasn’t even particularly daring, just stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate. First off, he spent very little time learning how to actually live in the wild. He arrived at the Stampede Trail without even a map of the area. If he [had] had a good map he could have walked out of his predicament […] Essentially, Chris McCandless committed suicide.”[1
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Shame there were no Bear Grylls shows in the early 90s.
He would have pissed it out of there.
