I'm sorry guys but Hopkins lost...and I am no Calzaghe fanboy and I am no fan of Hopkins either.
I watched the fight several times and I keep getting the same results 116-111 Calzaghe, because he pressed the action, he threw more punches, and he landed more punches.
Hopkins lost, he gave away too many rounds 4 of the last 4 rounds went to Calzaghe that's too many to give away
Is it me or was Enzo Calzaghe drinking more water than Joe?
i for one cannot see where these 250 punches calzaghe landed. i think the guy counting them must have double clicked the tally counter everytime joe looked like he landed. i saw joe miss, land on the gloves and arms, i even saw him throw punches form distance which where never goner land ( prob to just get his punch output numbers up ) and please don't no one say he was trying to find his range with those.
as soon as the bell rings i can while still standing in my corner throw 7 punches before my opponent is even in touching distance, now that doesn't mean 84 punches get added to my punch total.
looking back at the fight i feel joe threw 600 at best, landing 175, forget this buisness he threw over 700 and landed close to 250, he touched bernard 175 times and hit him maybe 90 times...............you dont get hit 250 times in a 36 mintue time frame by an trained boxer and not have any marks on your face, trust me i've boxed. b-hop didnt hardly have a mark on his face where as calzaghe was cut and bumped on the cheeks
Well the judges saw it his way and you can't say it was a hometown decision either.
This wasn't like the Collazo-Hatton fight where Ricky lost steam over the course of the fight....Joe started slower and ended better and that leaves a better impression on the judges. Hopkins just gave some of those rounds away, he ALWAYS does, he's 43 years old, he can't fight every second of every round anymore.
Joe Calzaghe CLEARLY won that fight: Gimza scored it for Calzaghe, Giampa scored it for Calzaghe, Byrd had it BARELY for Hopkins and Ledderman had it for Calzaghe and Compubox supported the people who had it for Calzaghe and the majority of people here saw it for Joe even some of the Americans....there MUST be some sort of conspiracy
Guys get a grip, Hopkins lost...he didn't get KO'd or anything but he lost the fight as far as him not looking like he's been in a fight he never looks like anything else, with his messed up teeth and broken nose he ALWAYS looks like he's just been in a fight
And the one judge who scored the fight in favour of the ex-Ring Light Heavyweight champion was from Philadelphia too.
I hope when Joe fights Roy Jones there are three Welsh judges with one from Newbridge. And Micky Vann refereeing.
Hey let's not blame Roy for Golden Boy and the Nevada Athletic Commission's obvious faux pax in picking Byrd to judge the fight.
Roy is going to England to fight Joe so I doubt any fight gets done without there being judges not from England there.
It's a shame that Roy never went over seas to fight anyone during his prime...you don't HAVE to fight local fighters overseas, you could just bring a fight over there just for the hell of it, a la The Rumble in The Jungle or the Thrilla in Manilla.
Hopkins could have won, but it would have had to be a few years back. Joe won, and deserves some credit. Hopkins can't fight a 12 round fight on the level he needs, to be able to get a win. Joe adjusted, and sustained, Hopkins didn't.
Hopkins is the better fighter without a doubt in my mind but some of the rounds he just didnt do enough to give him the round. Calzage didnt land much more but enough to take some of the middle and latter rounds. I had Calzaghe winning by a round, BUT he did not prove to be the superior fighter, just the slightly busier one down the stretch.
Psalm 144: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle
....what are you complaining about, Joe STILL won Giampa and Gimza scored the fight fairly accurately. Byrd was wrong but she was not waaaaay far off, I mean it's not like she had Hopkins by 8 rounds or anything
