I'll give Dirrell credit for a better fight, but I hate that phucking hot dogging $hit he was doing in the ring.

Now why the FUCK did he not do that with Curtis?
REDEMPTION. Absolute redemption. Now that's a fighter that deserves an HBO date.
He actually had a somewhat plausible explanation for this in his post fight interview.
He said that his sparring partners for the fight were not short and did not fight like Curtis, so when he got in there on fight night he had no idea what do. So he did what he used to do in the amateurs when he fought a short good fighter: run around and keep his distance.
I am more willing to accept that excuse after his destruction of Hanshaw.
Well that's probably why he only won a bronze...For fighting like that.
Be as it may.
I gotta be honest, now I can't wait to see him fight again. But he needs to learn one thing.
1. He needs to think before he speaks, don't say shit like "I don't care about the fans" cause shit like that ain't getting you nowhere.
Well that's another X chalked next to my selection in the prediction comp. I'd not really seen either of them, except Hanshaw against RJJ, and was hoping that experience might have given him the edge. Ah well, I guess it's another prospect to keep an eye on.
Well in the midst of Boston - Atlanta, Houston - Utah and the Sharks fighting for their playoff lives, I completely forgot about this card. I got on the forums but never saw the results, never even remembered the fight happened. Hopped on the download site and saw it, completely forgot about it. It's 4 AM and I've just finished watching the entire card.
First off, great first bout. That Di Marco kid was tall and all action a pin point puncher I like that. I admit that's something that always makes me a fan of fighter is if they are exceptionally accurate. I really like that in fighters. Delvin Rodriguez is an accurate puncher and that's who Di Marco reminds me of a bit but comes forward more.
But to the main event. First off, Hanshaw was a bull from the start and I really thought he was going to KO Dirrell and that was going to be it. One thing I worry about always from great amateurs is how they handle pressure. Mark Breland had all the skills in the world but in the pro ranks he didn't know how to handle pressure. It's not something you see so much as an amateur or at least not to the extent you do in the pros with the smaller gloves and no headgear. I thought it was going to be over in the first round. But Dirrell worked some lateral movement in and began timing Thompson in between long punches with those great short combos. He really does have exceptional hand speed.
Then he just completely flipped the script and after Thompson came after him, taunting him on the ground, Dirrell came out viscous. He became the aggressor and got that mean streak. That's another criticism of US amateurs, that they don't have the mean streak after the Olympics. That they don't have the drive and those were amplified after the Stephens fight. But he showed that fire and while he left some to be desired technically, I wish he would have had more of an outside attack like the jab he has that is great.
But that doesn't matter so much because he took out the best fighter he's ever been in with and did it in impressive style that had me shell shocked. I didn't expect that and Dirrell wowed me.
Has any fighter improved his stock more this year? Will watch with a more clear head in the morning but that was outstanding.
