Absolutely. I've always said that if Toney had just spent the majority of his career at cruiserwieight, he could have gone down as one of the greatest cruisers ever.

Instead he spent the early part of his career starving himself down to 160/168/175, and then spent his later years as a fat out-of-shape heavyweight.

Hoyfield didn't go down, it was stopped. He was getting hit with everything Toney threw and they stopped it.

At heavyweight no way, cruiser would have been an all time classic fight. I would lean towards Holyfield, cause I think he is stronger, but what a great fight.
Uhh... Holyfield did go down. He was getting hit but looked exhausted more than anything. He got back up and the ref, actually the corner stopped it. Holyfield looked dead tired just as he did in the 3rd Bowe fight.

Toney is probably my all time fav, but yeah he looked TERRIBLE in that fight and got an absolute GIFT of a decision. He lost that fight, that was the worst conditioned I've ever seen him.

There was another fight in which a fighter starved himself to make weight and had absolutely nothing for the fight. Tiberi won that fight.

The fight proved 2 things , Toney is a wonderful boxer , and its amazing that a former Middle weight can fight at heavy.

Also showed Evander was a shop worn fighter.

Good fight yeah but when you compare A cruiser Holyfield to a cruiser Toney , theres no competition . Evander owns him just as he owns any cruiser in history . Of that I am certain .

Holyfield was way past his prime but it was still a solid performance, that was the weight Toney should have been at heavy, about 215-220, he could bounce on his toes and all of that. And Holy was past his prime but he'd at least been reasonably competitive in his last fight before that against Byrd.

Toney acted a little crazy after the fight but I remember watching that fight again on a download with British announcers and thought they made a bit much out of it. For one he was very respectful towards Holyfield which is the most important thing. And I can't get too outraged about knocking the microphone out of Jim Gray's hands, annoying prick.

Yes Toney was a fight everybody type fighter I always thought. I also think that it was just unfortunate circumstances that he didn't get an alphabelt strap.
