Default Jeff Lacy Retiring - Taylor Fight Is Off!

I know that Jeff had a bad night on Wednesday, but I sure didn't see this coming.

Maybe he's saying it in the heat of the moment.

Actually this doesn't come as a surprise. The guy knows what he has left to give and may just feel he has nothing left that will be big enough to make a stamp at the top.

A shame really because I really like Lacy but it really has been an uphill struggle since Calzaghe. He's not had the best of fortune and if he is struggling to beat Manfredo then he really isnt ready to face Taylor.

This is probably a very sensible decision. I wish him all the best.

I was hoping to see more of Jeff Lacy even though he is a shot fighter he still is entertaining and is a good guy to root for but if he does retire respect to him because it takes alot of will power to stop doing something you love doing it is a shame if he retires but he knows himself what he is feeling inside and none of us can judge him.

I'm was getting afraid of what Taylor would do to Lacy. I mean he looked good early, but as soon as he got hurt he went wild and lost all his composure against Mendoza.

Froch has a good set of fresh legs under him and would be a much better opponent for Taylor. It will also be a good test to see where Taylor stands at this point.

Unhappy Re: Jeff Lacy Retiring - Taylor Fight Is Off!

Thats all I can say... Truly a sad day for me, my top 2 fighters retireing a month apart..

I rather see Lacy go like this then get brutally defeated and embarassed... I think Floyd Mayweather sr would have been perfect for Jeff a real down to earth guy with defensive prowess and technique

    Just plain gutted and crushed

You're the first person I thought of when I seen this. I know that you have been a long time supporter of his, so I knew you wouldn't like seeing this, and I almost didn't post it, because I didn't want to bum you out on the day of the big fight.

Who knows, maybe he's just saying it in the heat of the moment. I just read another article where Winky Wright says that he thinks that Jeff is just frustrated with the business, and he doesn't think that he will retire. I guess we'll see.

    Hang in there.

Thinking about this again i don't think Jeff Lacy has it in him to quit he is a proud man and comes accross as the type of guy that doesn't quit in anything he does i honestly can't seem him retiring i just think he is really frustrated that he knows he can perform better and im sure his training is all well and good but he just can't perform on the night i thought he looked fine against Vitali Tsypko until his shoulder gave out i would say that was his last good performance maybe the injury is still bothering him.

It may have just been a heat of the moment thing unless Jeff injured himself during the fight. If he injured himself, I could see him getting disgusted enough to walk away.

I still do not want him in against Taylor at this point though. He needs to get his ring composure back.

Thanks I'll try to... Jeff just dosent seem like himself even before this fight in the lead up he just has a different way about him hard to explain... I know this sounds even dumber but when I saw that strange beard on him it was odd and un Lacy like...

All I was gonna say too is that even if this fight came off Jermain was still on the tail end of 2 Pavlik losses and seemed a little off his game too, so even though Taylor is the favorite I wasnt convinced he was a favorite by much

Fighters say a lot of things when they're still emotional after a fight. I'd be pretty surprised if he walks away from what should be a nice payday against Taylor.

I hope he retires he may have pay days but he is not the same fighter and would loose at the top level every time he fought there. He was going to lose to Taylor and he probably would fight another 3 fights against lower tier opponents and then lose again to a Pavlik, Arthur Abraham's etc.

If he is a quitter we would have seen after 4 rounds with joe

I honestly think this leaves us with a better fight anyway . froch vs taylor is a much more exciting tear up .
