Surely their must be someone he can fight at 147.
Surely their must be someone he can fight at 147.
Surely theres another more recognizable name he can fight at Middle....
Even for a tune up, this sounds ridiculous. But it will still be interesting to see Williams at MW.
Not related to this thread as such, but if you didnt know already, you might find it interesting Mick. Khoren Gevor is fighting Amin Asikainen next. It's for the vacant EBU belt (that Amin held before losing to Sylvester last year).
I don't think any Welters were in a hurry to fight him and he is probably realized making welter was draining him too much. Everyone seems to have fights lined up and I think this is a good test the waters fight. He is still big for middleweight. I'm curious to see if he gains anything from the move up.
See the thing is Mick is that this fight isn't really an important one the way you think its just a fight just to see if Paul Williams can handle the weight while keeping all of his attributes Paul Williams will for certain fight the big names at Middleweight if he looks impressive Paul Williams isn't the kind of fighter to duck opponents.
I perfectly understand what the fight is about trust me kid, I know.
Still there are more recognizable names out there he could have fought.
Brian Veras gotten exposure with his win over Lee.
Why not Vera? Def. more recognizable then Kolle and it's not like Veras this HUGE threat to Paul.
True True, but Andy Kolle is still a bit of a weak choice, even for a gimme fight. I guess he must have improved since the Ward fight, since he's on a bit of a winning streak. I can actually understand why he wouldn't want Vera or one of the highly ranked Europeans. I wonder if Elvin Ayala or Miguel Espino would have been available. Those those might have been better real tests, o even see if Sebastian Demers would take a chance to get his career back on track.
I understand what your saying and i agree but i just think there playing safe because say if Paul Williams did indeed get in trouble against one of the better Middleweights would he be able to withstand it and would his legs hold up or etc ?
Two weightclasses is alot to move up too and i have no problem with this fight aslong as Paul Williams fights one of the top 8 Middelweights if he looks impressive in this one as he should but i for certain agree about Brian Vera he would of been good choice IMO.
hes gonna fight at middle, then go back down to welter for a title defense and he said he might move up again permantly. if thats the case he should fight margarita then
Im not quite sure why Williams took this guy, it will not benifit him in no way... I hope him and Margo fight..

I would have rather seen Paul move to 154. 154 is a mess. You got the Latin Fake and a 39 yr old Forrest battling it out for the WBC title. Then you have Cory "Send you to sleep" Spinks and Vernon Phillips who is 38 and has 10 losses on his resume. Then a past it ODLH who has 1 fight in him left which won't even be at 154. The jr-middle divison needs sorting out.
Williams is too much clas for this guy, he should be fighting better.
And if he moves to 154 then the competition isn't there for the big fights for him
Seems to me williams is getting his feet wet at 160 and taking a fight that he almost can't loose, the more important question here is how the hell does this guy ever make 147, him and clottey should have taught castillo thier little secret.
