People that discredit Duran are almost only those who have only watched him on paper!!

As I said in another thread - Henry Brussels, Gatti 10-5 for 15 fights prior to Mayweather, Mitchell - coming off a loss & Zudah coming off a loss - his opposition aint exactly got better lately!! Don't get me wrong I think he's awesome, but he is going backwards in terms of opposition.

...and if we are talking about the greatest, I reckon you've probabaly missed out 4 of the top 5

    Ray Robinson,
    Henry Armstrong
    Willie Pepp
    Roberto Duran
Roberto duran was 19-10 against god to great opposition...which makes him highly overrated....
We've had this discussion before and you refuse to acknowledge that it aint as simple as the record. The man was fighting until he was 50! With someone who had such a clear case of the "cant let go's" how can you include their whole record? You say that youve seen a substantial amount of Duran fights, but it sounds like you havent. Anyone who has seen Duran in his prime wouldnt discredit him.

Onto the Floyd debate. Floyd is the best around AT THE MOMENT, but how on earth are you going to put him in front of all the greatest fighters ever when hesnot even that far in front of Winky? Hearns would of been close with Floyd. Prime Duran would of won, Robinson would of destroyed him, so would Sanchez and these are just the guys who could of faced Floyd at his weight.

Floyd could be one of the greatest all time, but he has to start facing and beating the best fast, but even then, not sure he'd come close to Robinson.

Ali and Leonard lost out as they went away from boxing as they hit their peaks, Ali due to his political views and his fight against the draft, and Leonard due to the eye injury. So we never saw the truly best they could be. Sure Leonard got the decision over Hagler, but many still cry robbery and it was downhill from there for Leonard. He managed 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw after the Hagler fight.

Floyd, I believe, is at his peak and if he stays at 147 and cleans out his division, then I will change my vote to him. (I guess I can't change my vote but you know what I mean) If he had stayed in one division for awhile and beat every one of the four major title holders (WBO, WBC, WBA and IBF) I would have voted for him for that reason too.

Jones was, I admit, a dominate fighter at LH for like 8 years but there was one guy he bypassed. The then-WBO champion Michalczewski is one of them. Whether or not Dariusz wanted to leave Europe to fight Jones, I am not sure of. But it never seemed like Jones ever told him to put up or shut up. That and the fact that while Jones was picking up the then-vacant WBC LH title, Dariusz was unifying the WBO, IBF and WBA titles against Virgil Hill (he ended up dumping the WBA and IBF titles, probably because dealing with the hassles ofthree sanctioning bodies would make a fighter want to drink Drano) kind of dampens his reign a little for me.

Just my thoughts. Sad click if you take this as a Jones hate thing, cool click me if you agree about the Michalczewski thing.
Tyson reigned during one of the worst periods for heavyweights of all time. He has never, not once, beaten any truly great fighter. He would have been utterly destroyed by the likes of Ali. Exciting does not equate to great. I wouldn't put Tyson in the top 50 greatest fighters of all time. He may just sneak into my top 100.

You have to judge on the calibre of opposition. It's all very well beating up on subpar opposition. Seriously, who did Tyson beat to place him among the greatest of all time?
I don't place Tyson as on of the all-time greats buy of the boxers listed the question asks who was the best at their peaks, not the greatest of all time. I am saying we really never saw Leonard's or Ali's peak of perfection because when they arrived at it then they were gone for several years. As for Floyd and Jones, re-read my statement.

    I voted for Tyson.
Ricky Hatton is a very exciting fighter, there are not many boxers who have such an agressive come forward attack like him.

Willie Pep like another poster mentioned is also great. Charlie Burley as well.
I wanna see footage of Pep and Burley so bad... No clue where to get it

You have to remember PBF is up there cause a lot of fight fans are younger and only know their history back 10-15 years.

Ray Robinson was the greatest, hands down.

Great post from everyone. All these fighters with the exception of Floyd have lived out their careers and now their legacy's will start to grow if they haven't already. Floyd still has another 3-4 years of prime boxing left in him, he is a great fighter but it is too soon for him to be on the list with all these other fighters. Roy Jones dominated the square circle for the longest amount of time for the fighters on this list. He was p4p number one for the majority of the 90's and the beggining of this decade. Sugar Ray Leonard fought in the most competitive era ever for boxing. And he beat all the greats (Duran, Hearns, Hagler). I am sure it's controversy on the Hagler fight but he kept Marvin at bay and niether fighter was impressive in that fight, it was close. Ali was the strongest character on this list, he also fought in a period when his division was the best in it's history. Out of his epic victories (Liston, Forman, Frazier, etc) most of them came when he was beyond his prime so can you imagine if he never would have left boxing at his peak. This is a very hard decision to make but out of all of them Mike Tyson was the most physically talented but he was also the most mentally impaired. If he would have had half the brain of any of these fighters on the list he never would have lost, he would have ruled that division for 10-15 years off of physical talent. My vote goes to Tyson. All of these fighters are alive today, and if you ask any of them who was the greatest fighter of all time they will say Sugar Ray Robinson.

I was just voting on the list given me. Frankly none on the list in this thread would make my top 10 except Ali.

coz PBF is the man of the moment.

PBF is definetly exciting to watch but he hasn't reached the caliber of great fighters yet

OK NOW.... Been in Waco's liquor cabinet have you
Mayweather is not even close to the Greatest fighter of all time...Not even in the top 10...There was a small guy some years back that IMO would have gave Floyd a beating even at the lower weight...Sal Sanchez...A Roberto Duran at Lightweight was to much for any fighter then or now...at 147 Leonard would have outboxed him...Hearns would have killed him with his right.......And The hands down greatest fighter of all time is RAY ROBINSON.....Foloyd would have to repeat his career 4 times to even be close....
You get a giant well deserved

But don't beat the man, he is a great fighter and he only has brighter days ahead of him but he is no living legend....yet.
