Why not break it up and then work on it as separate responses? I think that the more realistic that training can be, the more that you'll get out of it.
Another thing about about your downward parry/forearm-block, I've always thought that it's dangerous move that should only be used in certain situations. Such as for instance you're parrying their punch on the retreat, which gets you out of range of a follow up, and the parry should give you a brief opportunity to counter with a jab of your own (just like a fencer's move). Otherwise under most conditions it's a dangerous habit.
