but he doesnt have the tools then does he.

That would be like saying Ricky has the tools to beat Mayweather, agression, strength, speed, foot work and stamina.

I don't think Zab Judah can beat any top world class fighter anymore.
Especially one who applies as much pressure as Hatton.

Hatton would probably stop Judah late.

Ok then. Mr. Ricky Hatton would win the fight. Mr. Zab Judah would be competitive. In the end Ricky Hatton would win the fight.

You win Ross. I give up trying to talk to you. I'll make direct statements with no room for error next time.

I think Zab has the tools, he just doesn't take full advantage of them, and mentally drops the ball at crucial times during fights...

That IS a tool though, when you are using the term so generally. Being able to focus on your opponent and pace yourself etc. is so important. Of course Zab Judah is more athletic than Ricky Hatton, hell I have friends that are. It would be like me saying I have all the tools to beat Margarito because I'm faster and more coordinated than he is, I just couldn't take advantage of it. The sheer fact Zab is still around is a huge testament to his athletecism, as he literally is missing the entire mental part of the sport.

I think that was I was saying? Wasn't it.. Anyway, i'm sure we are on the same track... Watching him in fights, you can see that spark at different times throughout, that isn't hard to picture turning into a fire and really getting at his opponents and hurting him.. But his mindset and determination is what would turn that spark into the fire, and it never happens.. So we can watch a fighter that's 90% there and root for him, but it just doesn't happen...
Perhaps we could say Zab is missing the essential tool to beat the opponents who skill & athleticism wise, he is up to...

Like, there are plenty of fights where you say, that guy gave it his all mentally and physically, and just plain old came up short.. But he put everything he had in.... It's hard to finish with that feeling after a Zab loss.. You're left sitting there thinking, if he just did this or that,,, if he took advantage of that thing that he was clearly winning out with in that 3rd round, etc.... You can 'see' how he could have won..... You're not saying, hell he fought his best throughout the whole fight,,, but just came up against someone who was better than him in the end....

Another of the thousands of things that seperates the true remembered legends, from the guys that scrape the top for only a brief time, and spend the rest of the time hanging on trying not to fall..

That would make a refreshing change

But for the record anyone at 140 for Hatton...

so your happy for hatton to fight people smaller than him, but zab who is 'bigger' than hatton, thats not acceptable?...ok.

Zab Judah will always be a woulda shoulda coulda fighter.

He is the type of fighter you will never get to enjoy because as soon as he rises he falls. Thats his own problems

He was the undisputed welterweight champion, for one title defense.

Since then he hasn't even been close to it.

Honestly the only way Judah could beat Hatton was if he rocked him early and got his confidence he could hurt him. If Hatton hasn't gone anywhere after the first few rounds then Zab mentally is in trouble.

At 140 though im not sure who is really stronger as Zab has never really been a smothering type of fighter.

He did do a better job at 147 then Hatton did.

The Tszyu that beat Zab Judah would have beaten Ricky Hatton.

People say that Tszyu didn't move Ricky but knocked out Zab.

Mayweather couldn't rock Judah but he knocked out Hatton.

I'd say Zab did better at 147 then 140 but as far as Hatton goes. Its a toss up. I don't think Hatton would outbox him so he would have to go back to the mauling Hatton style.

Damn, I'd give my left arm to see Zab beat Hatton. Would this board ever be a hoot if that happened. LOL

Yep good points. I just read it all the time on here, not even just about Zab but a given fighter having 'all the tools to win, if they can use them'. It's basically just a roundabout way of saying the guy is more athletic but mentally weaker most of the time.

Surely people saying that Judah would beat Hatton are trying to be controversial and/or trying to get a rise out of people. Judah has done sweet FA for the last few years to give any indication that he would win.

Hatton would slowly break Zab down and i think maybe he has missed the boat in reaching his potentail he has had some bad beatings of late and he load awful in his last fight.

I like Zab, he is a tremendous fighter with a lot of talent, but he just doesn't fight well when under pressure. He turtles up and gets defensive and doesn't let his hands go. I think Hatton would bust him up, not as bad as Cotto but enough for a UD.

    Judah should beat Ricky.
    Ricky would beat Judah.

That partly rests on my appreciation for boxing skills over swarming style, but just as much on Judah's history of not quite being what he seems he could have been.
