That's a common phrase in the UK "The World is your oyster".
Getting decent grades in your A levels doesnt mean you can choose most jobs in the world. In fact it means you can start low down and try and work your way up somewhere.
I got 2 A's at A level and here I am 10 years later finishing my MA trying to get my perks.

If i can give any advice, at least from an American stand point.. grades don't mean shite.. It's all about experience.. The only things grade matters on are certifications, meaning, you have to score a certain grade to get the certification..
Not to say that it's not a good idea to do well in school, because if you are doing well then you are learning new skills, but i wouldn't consider the fact that i was getting A's being a deciding factor in an employers decision to hire me.. The way i see it, my schooling put me in a position to understand the training i will receive at a job i am hired at, it gave me the basic tools i need to become successful.
