I read this interview at the Los Angeles Library.
Even made copies of it on a copy machine.
I could never find it on the net.
Thanks CGM, really appreciate this one.
Alexis lived such a tragic life filled with ups and downs.
Despite all that he remained for as much as he could a gentleman.
He says a lot of things I relate to, especially when he talks about how you can change from one day to another. Often I find myself feeling a certain way about something then the next day I feel different about it and I change. Alexis has always been this way thinking and being 1 way then the next day being the opposite.
Sometimes life just takes you down a certain road you don't want to travel but events lead you there and it takes that to show you that it's not you and it's not want you want.
To this day Alexis interviews IMO are one of the more in depth interviews you can read that take you into the mind of just a human. I'm not even talking about him as a boxer just a human he takes you there to how he felt to what he thought what he did and what turned out to be.
Like Joe Louis, he was used up by his government and held up high when he was ontop of the world then he was let down and hit rock bottom like a rag doll.
Today however in his hometown of Nicaragua there is no other athlete more beloved by his people then he. Alexis has a love & hate relation with his country the hate however came from the country at one point when all he did was love them.

For those who aren't into reading...
Just read the first 3-4 short paragraphs about his pops and see if it doesn't suck you right into the interview.
A real in depth look into the life of Alexis.
Well, after last night's issue with Margarito's wraps, I recalled that Arguello was made to do a rewrap by Billy Costello's team before their jww bout, and I was trying to find out what the issue was. It's interesting that according to the article, Arguello did his own wraps, which I wasn't aware of.
is that meant to have some real stigma attached to it ?
just in the book war by Kevin Mitchell he says something about the G-man wrapping his own hands and the only other time hed seen this in a pro bout the fighter in question died in the ring, obviously he didnt know this about Alexis
however what is the big deal with it ??
No, that's not meant to have a stigma attached to it.
Apparently it helped him get his head into the upcoming bout. Whatever works for you.
It did strike me as unusual that a veteran with Arguello's experience and reputation would have to do a rewrap, and I was trying to find out why. Are you are saying it's not that unusual?
nah dude, read what i said bout the book, the author (mitchell) seemed to believe that a fighter wrapping there own hands for a fight at the top
level of boxing was a really bad sign and the only two times hed seen it happen, one fighter died in the ring, and the other was mclellan and we know what happened there
i just wondered if anyone knew why he would think that its such a bad sign
Is it time to revive the old Trinidad illegal wrap threads?![]()
Wow that was deep. Thanks for that, I knew a bit about Arguello the boxer, but didn't realize what his life was like. If a boxer deserves a biopic its him.
That is tragic.

In all honesty if your doing your own wraps, its really hard to get them right for the higher end commisions,so Im not surprised they called for a re-wrap
Perhaps, but this is Arguello we're talking about. I kinda think after 80+ fights, including over ten years at the very top, he'd have it down.
